The Opportunity:
 

The Physiotherapist assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates physical therapy interventions to support residents living with complex mental health and cognitive conditions. This role focuses on promoting functional independence, enhancing quality of life, supporting behavioral stability through movement and activity, and preventing further physical and psychosocial decline.


What Is In It For You:

  • Assesses and reassesses residents to identify physical, cognitive, and behavioral factors impacting mobility, function, and participation.

  • Develops individualized, goal-oriented treatment plans that reflect both physical rehabilitation and mental health needs.

  • Utilizes therapeutic interventions to support regulation, reduce responsive behaviors, and promote safe mobility and independence.

  • Collaborates closely with the interdisciplinary team (including nursing, mental health clinicians, recreation, and physicians) to ensure a consistent and holistic approach to resident care.

  • Adapts treatment approaches using trauma-informed and recovery-oriented principles

  • Provides recommendations for environmental modifications, adaptive equipment, and strategies to support safety and function.

  • Participates in care conferences, behavior support planning, and interdisciplinary rounds

  • Maintains accurate documentation, resident statistics, and outcome measures.

  • Contributes to the development, review, and updating of Rehab Department policies and procedures, with consideration for mental health best practices.

  • Supports education and coaching for staff related to safe mobility, behavioral supports, and therapeutic approaches.

  • May orient or supervise staff, students, or volunteers.

  • Ensures equipment and the treatment environment promote safety, accessibility, and therapeutic engagement for residents and staff.

What You Will Need:

  • Graduate of an approved Canadian Physiotherapy program.

  • Active registration and membership in good standing with the Alberta College of Physiotherapists.

  • Experience working with individuals with mental health conditions, dementia, or complex behaviors is preferred.

  • AADL Authorizer status is an asset.

  • Experience with MDS/RAI and familiarity with LTC or supportive living environments is preferred.
