You know the moment. It’s the first notes of that song you love, the intro to your favorite movie, or simply the sound of someone you love saying “hello.” It’s in these moments that sound matters most.

At Bose, we believe sound is the most powerful force on earth. We’ve dedicated ourselves to improving it for nearly 60 years. And we’re passionate down to our bones about making whatever you’re listening to a little more magical.

The engineering team at Bose is a thriving, passionate, deeply skilled team of professionals from a broad range of disciplines and experiences, who share a common goal—to create products that provide transformative sound experiences.

Job Description

At Bose, R&D is the beating heart of what we do, and when we’re at our best, we deliver products that use audio to deliver real benefits — benefits so fresh and unexpected people didn’t even realize they needed them, but once experienced say they can’t live without! We’ve spent decades working hard studying, advancing, and obsessing over the many technical fields that go into audio products: acoustics, psychoacoustics, electronics, transducers, and more. Transducers are the back bone of our products. We are seeking an enthusiastic and creative Transducer Engineer to join our transducer development team.

Responsibilities

In this role, your focus is on the engineering of new transducers from initial feasibility through to mass production. You will work with our supply base to source and qualify new audio transducers including moving coil and microspeakers. You will achieve this by:

  • Working collaboratively with engineers across the corporation in support of each of our product categories. Focus will be working with our Automotive Theater Teams to support OEM customers.
  • Developing specifications for new transducers.
  • Recommending what transducers will be in our next products.
  • Analyzing acoustical data using MATLAB.
  • Developing and improving our tools, lab fixtures, and overall measurement capability. Measure parts as needed.
  • Performing failure analysis and competitive analysis.
  • Communicating directly with suppliers and manufacturers with written reports.
  • Serving as an SME for acoustic measurement best practices within automotive and align with technical leads in other engineering organizations (consumer, production test, etc…). Enforce consistency with both internal and external labs.
  • Providing and sharing acoustic approval amongst other technical leads.

Qualifications

  • BS or MS is required in an appropriate technical discipline (Acoustical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Physics). A graduate level degree is helpful.
  • At least 5 years of work experience in engineering product development, preferably in Automotive (OEM) Audio.
  • A strong understanding of the following technical areas:
    • Physical acoustics
    • Structural dynamics
    • Electromagnetics
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to discuss complex technical issues with both experts and non-experts, both external and internal.
  • Experience working on multi-disciplinary teams, with exposure to systems, electrical, mechanical, and manufacturing engineers.
  • Experience with bass boxes.
  • Must be comfortable with hands-on laboratory work.
  • Familiarity with loudspeaker standards.
  • Familiarity with OEM Validation considerations.
  • Must be able to travel occasionally for business.
  • Software tool proficiency:
    • Must be comfortable using MATLAB for data analysis on a daily basis.
    • Measurement System experience with an industry tool such as Audio Precision, Klippel, etc.
    • Equivalent Circuit Simulation: Experience with one of PSPICE/LTSPICE, Simulink/Simscape.
    • Experience using finite element analysis (FEA) for acoustical, structural, and electromagnetic systems.
  • Additional skills which are valuable include:
    • Experience with transducers for acoustical measurements or structural measurements.
    • Knowledge of equivalent circuit representations of acoustical and mechanical systems.
    • Experience measuring both the linear and nonlinear acoustical performance of loudspeaker drivers.
    • Experience using 3D CAD tools like NX or Solidworks.
    • Critical listening skills a plus.
