Reporting to the Head of Engineering, Corporates, Tax & Trade for Thomson Reuters, the VP, Technology will be a key information technology (IT) leader overseeing the development of our Global Trade Management (GTM) product. The role functionally owns resources or provisions resources to deliver service software engineering to a platform or BU.
About the Role
Leads a global team of engineers to build scalable, secure, stable and performant building blocks (such as microservices) that can be easily integrated and deployed by both customers and other engineering teams to quickly provide required customer capabilities
Creates, prioritizes, and executes on product releases that allow our complete portfolio of assets to migrate to a common and modern platform that is cloud-compatible
Develops a strong leadership team that places the customer at the center of their focus and delivers value quickly
Understands modern technologies, and uses the central platform as a way to drive their adoption, where applicable, across our customer offerings
Helps drive simplification and rationalization of technology building blocks across the portfolio by championing and enabling technology re-use
Defines standards for product development to ensure all products meet requirements for reliability and performance
Interacts and collaborates with other internal departments to formulate recommendations and actions
Builds and tracks performance metrics and makes enhancements to existing metrics and reports
Evaluates and assesses necessary emerging technology capabilities to enable product strategy and vision
Ensures the delivery of quality product releases and improved engineering standards throughout SDLC
Advances our API agenda with both internal and external customers and partners
Enables strong partnerships with key partners in the eco-system by driving modern integrations with their offerings working alongside with Integrations leader
Sets appropriate non-functional focus based on business strategy and risk
Promotes good engineering practices and appropriate focus on non-functional requirements
Provides thought leadership on platforms, standards, tools, architecture patterns
Keeps current on technology and architecture trends
Enables strong cross-product synergies to support and motivate opportunities to cross-sell at major customers
Other duties to include:
Delivery of programs and projects as per agreed scope, budget, timeliness, and quality metrics. Selection and day to day management of third-party delivery partners, and improving efficiency and value obtained.
Overall relationship, contract effectiveness, and governance of all of delivery partners
Accountable for ensuring the Programs deliver the expected business and commercial results from the Application Development portfolio. Also responsible for tight Dependency management and increased throughput required to deliver on the change programs.
Manages all resources associated with development initiatives across different geographies mainly US, India and LatAm, including 3rd party suppliers and strategic acquisitions.
Leads projects with high visibility and significant risk to achieve organization-wide milestones and objectives. Provides leadership and direction.
Grows organization talent through recruiting, coaching, mentoring, and developing strategies for above.
About You
Defines and leads enterprise technology programs and projects across boundaries based upon organizational goals.
Overall 15+ years of IT experience with minimum 10 years in leading large technology transformation programs and focusing on high performance delivery, business growth and operational effectiveness.
Expertise in end-to-end accountability of large complex transformation programs and organizations including building new technology platforms and finding/implementing ways to accelerate the program execution for expedited business value realization and quicker ROI
Strong customer centricity focusing on innovation, budgeting, ROI, strategic and tactical business objectives, pragmatic and compelling methodologies, different flavors of agile, implementation plans aligned to organization goals.
Must have solid understanding of software engineering, operations and security principles, architecting systems for non-functional requirements such as disaster recovery, high availability, system telemetry, security, infrastructure as code, automation, CI/CD, quality, scalability, API, and SRE.
Proven experience using formal software engineering tools and methodologies, including design, development, testing through deployment. Articulates technical and non-technical information effectively to multiple audiences and levels.
Ability to build and manage financial plans to meet organizational objectives.
Ability to stand-alone and drive difficult decisions. Appreciates and drives change in the organization as well as the impacts and consequences of those changes.
Able to inspire and influence broadly throughout the organization.
Advanced technical knowledge and ability usually obtained through working in varied and challenging development roles.
Experience designing, building, and operating high volume, client facing cloud products.
Passion to support cognitive computing initiatives to enhance product capabilities.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
