Salary Range: SP2, $74,242 - $92,803. The final compensation for this position will be determined based on individual factors, including education, qualifications, experience, and internal equity.

Analyst, Cloud Cost Management – Hybrid

The Opportunity

The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) is looking for an experienced Analyst, Cloud Cost Management to join our growing team. The Analyst, Cloud Cost Management will work with other teams within the Information Management & Technology (IMT) branch to ensure that costs incurred by cloud-based services are effectively allocated, analyzed, forecasted, tracked, and reported on to provide insights for optimizing cost efficiency. This role also leads the Change and Configuration Management process, ensuring that cloud assets and services are accurately tagged and tracked within the configuration management database (CMDB) and that the CMDB is up to date.

What your day-to-day will look like:

  • Leads the development, implementation, and maintenance of an up-to-date dashboard of analysis, forecast, and comprehensive reporting of Azure cloud consumption (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) that effectively allocates these costs based on a show-back or usage model. This dashboard drives trend identification, trend patterning, and anomalies that impact budgeting and optimization processes within the branch.

  • Responsible for working with operations and projects teams to ensure that cloud-related Configuration Items are up to date with the CMDB and are being updated and maintained effectively within the teams.

  • Collaborates with operations and project teams to identify opportunities for reducing or optimizing cloud-based services.

  • Conduct training sessions, workshops and mentoring to educate internal stakeholders on Azure cost management practices and tools.

What we’re looking for in you:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Finance, or related field.

  • 3-5 years of experience in Azure cloud cost management, reporting, or analysis

  • Strong understanding of Azure cloud services, pricing models, and billing concepts.

  • Proficiency in data analysis tools such as Microsoft Office 365 (including PowerBI) and in Azure fundamentals.

  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets and generate actionable insights, detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and quality.

  • Proficiency in cloud cost management concepts, including resource tagging, budgeting, and forecasting, and familiarity with cloud cost optimization techniques and strategies.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams.
