Location: This is a remote position with 25-30% local travel. Candidates must be based in South Florida (Greater Miami Area, Broward County), Tampa, or Orlando.
Join Our Team as a Project Engineer
At Envista Forensics, we're looking for a Project Engineer with a passion for uncovering the why behind complex mechanical failures. Your expertise will help identify the causes of material, component, and product failures, often playing a pivotal role in determining the facts behind incidents that may involve legal investigations or disputes.
What You'll Do:
As part of our Mechanical Engineering group, you'll delve into the fascinating world of mechanical failures across a wide variety of equipment and systems, including:
HVAC systems, consumer products, plumbing systems, and fire protection.
Heavy equipment, industrial plants, and manufacturing facilities.
Medical and agricultural equipment, elevators, engines, and more.
You'll also assess the cost of restoring equipment to its pre-loss condition, factoring in potential upgrades or temporary solutions. Whether you're analyzing property damage, personal injuries, design issues, or catastrophic claims, your findings will make a tangible difference for our clients.

Our clients include property and casualty insurers, worker’s compensation adjusters, and attorneys involved in personal injury, subrogation, or defense cases.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
Investigates the cause of failures, damages, or defects in the mechanical fields within industrial, commercial, and residential sites. Analyzes the failure of mechanical systems, determines the cause of failures, evaluates the quality of construction or reviews design or maintenance procedures.
Participates in catastrophe responses such as hurricanes, tornados, floods, wildland fires, and earthquakes.
Performs field investigations, leads multi-party examinations and documentation of damaged property.
Researches failure modes and code requirements as needed, prepares recommendations for repair and/or remediation as appropriate.
Prepares accurate, clear, thorough, and concise reports and letters outlining the cause and origin of the damages to clients. Follows established policies, procedures, and processes in preparing information, exercising sound judgment in applying these to potentially unusual or complicated situations, and submits reports and documents in a timely manner and in accordance with client’s standards and expectations.
Provides deposition or expert testimony as a fact or expert witness for product liability cases, forcivil or federal court cases, and, occasionally, criminal cases, to investigate and testify in a deposition or courtroom setting, about the cause, extent or source of damages or professional liability.
Maintains established relationships with current clients and consultants.
Manages and/or works with multi-disciplinary teams on large and complex assignments ensuring a cohesive approach to the investigation while maintaining effective communication across the project team.
Adheres to all applicable State Insurance Regulation requirements and other applicable laws, regulations, and standards.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
Education:
Professional Engineer (PE) license in Mechanical Engineering (required).
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (required).
Required Skills/Abilities/Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in mechanical engineering.
2 years in forensic engineering or failure analysis (preferred).
Strong understanding of mechanical systems, structures, and failure mechanisms.
Hands-on experience with failure analysis, materials testing, and root cause analysis.
Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to write technical reports and present findings clearly and concisely.
Ability to travel to investigation sites as needed within South Florida.
Knowledge of building codes, safety standards, and industry regulations.
Willingness to obtain additional Professional Engineering Licenses as required by their Manager or Technical Director.
Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record (required).
