Job Description Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Director, Clinical Manager, Preceptor, and Charge Nurse, responsible for providing patient care and assigned procedures for assigned patients. Employee is subject to call back and overtime as required by the hospital.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Performs direct and indirect patient care responsibilities as assigned by charge nurse and/or preceptor.
  • Ensures patient safety.
  • Documents delivery of patient care and other pertinent information in patients’ medical record and updates plan of care for assigned patients as necessary.
  • Performs responsibilities as related to the safe disposal of hazardous pharmaceutical waste.
  • Communicates information regarding patients and unit operations to RN, Charge Nurse, Clinical Manager, Director, and other shifts in a timely manner using proper lines of communication.
  • Communicates effectively with other departments with personnel from other departments in the hospital using proper lines of communication.
  • Performs and documents secondary assessment on patients in Med/Surg, Progressive Care, Post Acute, and Skilled Nursing only.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required or directed.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

  • Acceptance into an accredited school of nursing and successful completion of the course requirements needed for the employee to be eligible to graduate within 1 year.

LICENSURE, REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION:

  • BLS certification must be obtained within the orientation period, and certification must be kept current while in this position.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Completion of the first year of an Associates Degree program or the junior year of a BSN Degree program from an accredited school of nursing.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge and skills as normally acquired through the successful completion of the first year of an Associates Degree program or the junior year of a BSN Degree program from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Basic computer skills preferred.

INTERPERSONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Communication skills to perform nursing care on a continuous basis and provide comfort and support to the patient and their family.
  • Ability to exchange and provide patient care information to licensed personnel.
  • Contributes to a positive work environment and the overall team effort of the department.

DIRECTION/SUPERVISION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Not applicable to position.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to perform frequent moderate to heavy lifting and transporting of patient and equipment.
  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking on a continuous basis.     

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

  • May be exposed to communicable diseases and bio-hazardous materials.

OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Works well under pressure.
