About you and this role
Dow’s Light Hydrocarbon Technology Center has an exciting opportunity for a Plant Technology Associate at PDH-1 in Oyster Creek, TX.
Started up in 2015, PDH-1 is one of the world’s largest on-purpose propylene facilities and provides strategic, low-cost polymer-grade propylene to downstream derivative businesses and customers. PDH-1 uses UOP-licensed Oleflex™ technology to catalytically convert propane to propylene. By providing technology expertise and direct engagement with plant operations staff, the Plant Tech Associate is an essential contributor to the plant delivering on its goals and performance objectives. Additionally, the Plant Tech Associate role is a great opportunity for rapid technical and influential leadership development.
Responsibilities
- Ensure technology best practices are being utilized in facility, including LHC design principles.
- Monitor plant performance; provide direction to run plant staff on improving plant operation.
- Coach technical staff on technology and best practices.
- Challenge plant performance and limits – drive optimal plant performance.
- Engage Dow’s Technical Expertise & Support department into resolving plant limits or issues.
- Identify improvement opportunities as well as support capital plan / plant-specific technology plan development.
- Co-owner of plant results and goals, with bias for taking action to improve plant metrics.
- Partner with the Improvement Leader, identify and define major improvement initiatives.
- Provide detailed knowledge of the manufacturing process technology.
- Serve as Tech Center Representative for all projects <$5MM.
- Engage in scope definition for turnaround, including challenging scope. Provide technical support and oversight during to run plant team during all phases of the turnaround.
- Participate in technology related RCIs to ensure appropriate causes and action items are identified.
- Ensure follow-up of business-driven actions, initiatives and RCI actions.
- Act in a people development capacity. Provide coaching, feedback and input on goals related to technology.
- Participate in key plant meetings, including daily morning meetings.
- Participate in tech center audits, LOPA (layers of protection analysis) revalidation, and other technology meetings.
Qualifications
- A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in engineering or relevant military experience at or above a U.S. E6 ranking OR Canadian Petty Officer 2nd Class ranking.
- A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience.
- Prior work experience with Olefins M&E roles or Hydrocarbons R&D roles.
- Possession of a TWIC card or eligibility to obtain a TWIC card is required for this position. Per the US Government and Department of Homeland Security policy and regulations, you may apply for a TWIC card if you are a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, naturalized citizen or a nonimmigrant alien, asylee, or refugee who is in lawful status.
- A minimum requirement for this position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.
Preferred Skills
- A Bachelor's Degree or higher in Chemical Engineering.
- Experience in Oleflex™, CCR, Platforming, or similar heterogeneous catalyst technologies.
- Prior experience as Production Engineer or Improvement Engineer.
- 5+ years of experience in Olefins M&E roles.
- Degree in Chemical Engineering.
- Knowledge and use of modeling tools (Aspen, etc.).
- Previous experience with LOPA implementation and maintenance.
