Job Description

What is the opportunity?

As the Director, Taxation, you will be responsible for the provision of prudent, pro-active tax advice supporting RBC’s business operations in Asia-Pacific and ensuring adherence to RBC’s tax risk appetite.

What will you do?

  • Providing accurate and pragmatic advice to RBC’s businesses in the region both on an ad hoc and a proactive basis.
  • Responsible for managing RBC’s tax audits and inquiries (tax controversy) in APAC, including responding to queries and recommending appropriate company action with respect to issues in dispute.
  • Assisting with responses to all tax audits and tax regulator inquiries across Asia-Pacific.
  • Legal documentation review and input into PARs, NBCs etc with respect to corporate changes/restructuring.
  • Strengthen regional support to the Wealth Management business including review of tax opinions and FATCA/CRS issues.
  • Provide prudent and fulsome tax responses to ISR/NBC initiatives in Asia-Pacific.
  • Proactive investigation of tax impacts of potential trading strategies and tax planning opportunities in Asia-Pacific, with the over-arching requirement of adhering to local and global tax regulations and governance and mitigating tax risk as far as possible.
  • Providing counsel on tax trends, tax transparency and governance issues throughout Asia-Pacific.
  • Review and interpret tax legislation to ensure tax liabilities are minimised wherever possible and advise the business of the impact of changing tax legislation on their operations.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • Degree or equivalent is required
  • Relevant Professional qualification: Accountancy or Law
  • Established tax professional, experience gained in the accounting profession / law firms / multinational corporations.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience of the financial services sector essential.
  • Ability to prioritise goals and objectives and drive shareholder value.
  • Excellent people skills (staff development, team building, partnering).
  • Good knowledge of tax legislation together with detailed knowledge of tax regulations relevant to the financial sector.
  • Proven record of drafting tax advice.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills

Nice-to-have

  • Ability to speak Chinese is helpful in dealing with local advisors
