Summary of Job Duties:

This position does not routinely require night or weekend shifts

The Senior Clinical Therapist will serve as a consultant to early childcare providers, educators, families and other team members serving in similar roles. This position is culturally competent and an expert in promoting positive early childhood mental health. The Senior Clinical Therapist should possess skills that include a thorough knowledge of early childhood development coupled with an understanding of family dynamics and relationship building on an individual/family, provider, and community level. This position holds strong expertise and are equipped to support their peers.

This position will be a lead therapist who is equipped to take on special projects in (beyond consultation), such as trauma-informed care training and reflective practice groups. This position will represent UAMS and Project PLAY in a positive and professional manner and adhere to all best practices, guidelines, policies and procedures as established.


Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a mental health related field (counseling, psychology, social work, marriage and family counseling) plus five (5) years of experience in early childhood development early care and education and early childhood mental health required.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

  • Routine travel within the State of Arkansas is required

  • Current (or eligible) valid license by Arkansas Professional Board - Licensed Certified Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to work on multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

  • Excellent PC skills with demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office Package (MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Access, Outlook) and internet.

  • Training and public speaking skills.

  • Strong written and verbal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expertise in any of the following: Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation; Engagement, Relationship Building, and Collaboration with Families and Caregivers; Trauma-informed education and technical assistance to support trauma-informed systems.

  • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).


Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

  • Identify and assist with interventions for young children, birth to five, who may be at risk of suspension and/or expulsion from a childcare or early education program.

  • Act as a resource regarding early childhood development with emphasis on emotional and behavioral health and the importance of relationship between the child and parent/guardian.

  • Provide environmental assessments and recommendations to improve the classroom environment and enhance relationships between teachers and children and providing coaching to early childcare providers in a manner that is culturally responsive to the child, family, and provider.

  • Complete assessments and individualized plans to involve the early childcare provider, child, and family and assist early childcare staff with appropriate referral information for identified children and families who may need more specialized services.  

  • Participate in training modules, regularly scheduled statewide meetings, and supervisory meetings and observations and work collaboratively with community agencies to build competencies in the early childhood workforce.

  • Provide public education regarding early childhood topics through workshops and community presentations especially trainings in trauma-informed education for early childhood educators.  

  • Act as a liaison between family, early childcare providers, and other support agencies in the community as well as work collaboratively with community agencies.  

  • Provide required paperwork and reports including weekly logs of Project PLAY activities.

  • Contributions to case management of the project case load and participation in ARRAY workgroup meetings will be assigned as needed.  

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
