SUMMARY:The Manager Research is a leadership and working position that oversees staff within the assigned area within research administration of the CTSI and typically maintains an active portfolio.The department of Research Administration is a unified research entity comprised of over 300 teammates structured to provide outstanding research administration support in all research domains (e.g. basic, clinical, population) across the enterprise. The Research Administration department supports investigators and research teams through the provision of creative tools and services while maintaining the highest standards of customer service and promoting a safe, compliant and ethical research environment.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or a related field with 2-4 years of relevant experience in clinical research as a financial analyst or similar position.In some circumstances may consider equivalent years of direct research administration experience in a central office or certifications relevant to the profession in lieu of a bachelor's degree.
  2. 1-3 years of experience supervising or managing direct reports and completing performance management activities is required.
  3. Knowledge of research administration practices required.

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION: N/A.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Supervision of staff involved in the assigned area such as post award management of grant and contract proposals, coverage and analysis, sponsored contracts, or cash teams.
  2. Manages distribution of work assignments, personnel mentoring, and assists in performance reviews and disciplinary actions.
  3. Works closely with the Director and other leadership to facilitate all activities.
  4. Under the direction of the Director, maintains a strong working knowledge of external sponsor regulations and interprets and communicates policies and procedures for institutional implementation of those regulations.
  5. Makes consistent and independent judgments and decisions regarding compliance with institutional policy, as well as federal and state regulations governing grants and contracts.
  6. Identifies, defines and resolves issues related to activities in accordance with federal, state, funding agency/sponsor, and institutional policies and regulations.
  7. Provides guidance to research faculty and staff on issues such as applicable regulations, interpretation of solicitations and funding announcements, proposal preparation, budget development, contract terms, Post-award account requests and cost share requirements.
  8. Acts as liaison between the institution, departments and external federal and private funding agencies.
  9. Develop content and implement a variety of training programs including face-to-face and on-line training for research faculty and staff related to award activities.
  10. Analyzes requests for information related to awards and develop procedures to improve institutional reporting.
  11. Manages special projects and other initiatives, as assigned.
  12. Performs other related duties incidental to work described herein.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience with computerized databases (e.g., Microsoft Excel), word processing (e.g., Microsoft Word), and presentation software (e.g., Microsoft PowerPoint).
  • Personnel management experience.
  • Ability to work independently and to accept responsibility for complex and sensitive decision-making as it relates to the position.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage many competing priorities and responsibilities.
  • Ability to travel to Enterprise locations.
