Job Summary

The Health Information Management Records Technician I is responsible for assisting staff and agencies with their request for record retrieval and review of records.

Monday - Friday (Some Weekends)
5:00pm - 1:30am (Hours May Vary)

Job Specific Responsibilities

Daily assignments may include but are not limited to:

• Receive, prepare, scan, perform quality control checks of records then validate
• Receive and complete release of information requests for further care
• Maintaining confidentiality, facilitate release of protected health information, including request transmissions incoming and outgoing via the fax server
• All other assigned duties related to Birth Information Records

Education and Experience-

• High School Diploma or GED

Skills and Abilities-

• Excellent customer service skills; Must speak, read, and write English fluently
• Strong attention to detail; Ability to maintain confidentiality
• Foundational knowledge of Microsoft office products and general office equipment

Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships

Interacts with patients, staff members within the UMC Hospital, peers of Health Information Management teams, and external medical staff and outside physicians

Physical Capabilities

Work involves walking and at times, prolonged periods of sitting. May be required to transport records/files via self, cart, or vehicle; bundled items weighing up to 25 lbs. Near visual acuity to read documents, charts, and computer records necessary.

Environmental/Working Conditions

Position is indoors and not prone to hazardous materials but may experience constant changing indoor temperatures
