Essential Functions:

Postdoc will examine viral pathogen-host interactions. In vitro and in vivo models will be used to elucidate the determinants of transmission and pathogenesis. The researcher will need a working knowledge of techniques and practices used in the project, including nucleic acid purification, PCR, tissue culture, generation of viral stocks, and viral quantification.

Job Description

Maintains mammalian and arthropod cell lines, performs basic virology techniques and records, interprets and reports data. Animal use/care including infections and post infection surveillance of non pregnant and pregnant mice, and general laboratory equipment maintenance; maintains inventory records of laboratory equipment and supplies and initiates purchase orders to replenish supplies.

Independently designs and implements research techniques. Collects and analyses data and draws conclusions as related to the research project. Prepares data for publication. Prepares publication for peer review, including background literature search and description, with use of citation program (eg, Endnote).

Supervises technical positions / students in carrying out research experiments. Performs very technical and highly complex research studies. Supervises and maintains the operation of a research laboratory.

Regular and prompt attendance. Ability to work schedule as defined and additional hours as required. Related duties as required.

Special emphasis on medical virology and experience working with cell culture and/or animal models would be preferred.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

The applicant must have a working knowledge of immunology and molecular biology as well as the ability to record data in an organized fashion. Experience with interpreting and reporting data is essential. The ability to learn and apply skills in virus and animal handling is also expected. Independent experimental design and execution is expected.

Specific Minimum Requirements:

A PhD in a public health, medical, clinical, or research laboratory. Experience handling dengue virus, Zika virus, C6 mosquito cells and rodent model work is a plus.
