Your New Role

The Warner Bros. Television Group (WBTVG) oversees and grows the entire portfolio of Warner Bros Discovery television businesses, including worldwide production, traditional and digital distribution, and broadcasting. The WBTVG division produces live-action dramas and comedies, animated series, and unscripted & alternative programming for traditional broadcast networks, cable channels and the first-run syndication marketplace, as well as for subscription/on-demand platforms and digital media outlets.

Studio Controllership is a Warner Bros Discovery global accounting team. The team serves to provide efficient and scalable global finance and accounting services to the Warner Bros Discovery Group of Companies. We are looking for a Director to lead the accounting activities for the TV Group, including WB Animation, Theatre Ventures, Alloy Entertainment, Digital Networks Group and TV Production. The candidate must be proactive, able to critically think and work independently.

Duties include general ledger stewardship, month end closing and reporting, consolidation of actual results and preparation and review of all financial statements, by title reporting, footnotes, and disclosures. Duties also include reconciliation ownership of production systems and feeds to/from SAP, account reconciliations and working with the offshore teams in India, onshore teams in the US, Business Unit FP&A and Consolidated Financial Reporting group in support of the closing process.

Your Role Accountabilities

  • Pro-active planning by establishing and ensuring the overall timelines and accuracy of the month end close process; ensuring the activities are in compliance with SOX key controls.
  • Review key schedules for reasonableness and to obtain a solid understanding of the operations.
  • Review journal entries, analyzes and episodic data input prepared by direct reports or offshore team in India for accuracy.
  • Prepare or review By-Title analysis.
  • Review trial balance analysis.
  • Review By-Title and Financial Verification Grids prepared by offshore team in India.
  • Review Footnotes, Supplemental Schedules and other required schedules for TV Group.
  • Responsible for all day-to-day activities such as account reconciliations; SAP projects monitoring/settlement; C-item issues.
  • Prepare and review supporting schedules for account reconciliations.
  • Work closely with offshore India team to ensure account reconciliations are accurate and updated in timely manner.
  • Prepare and review AR securitization reporting and other required schedules.
  • Respond to requests from PwC auditors, Compliance team, Participation auditors and other 3rd party requests.
  • Lead all administrative and local needs of entire Studio Controllership team located in Mexico City. The Mexico City team members operationally report into various management teams based in Burbank, CA
  • Assist with hiring of key team members, building and aligning strong employee culture across Studio Controllership organization. Ensure all team members adhere to location specific Hybrid work schedules.
  • Lead relationships with different business partners/stakeholders within Mexico City location and across various WBD locations.
  • Foster continuous improvement programs and implement technology to maximize the efficiency of activities.
  • Create excellent employee experiences and a strong employee culture.
  • Develop staff into mature financial advisors with a customer service orientation toward the dependent India offshore team, Corporate and Business Unit groups with whom there is regular interaction. Work with supervisor to set priorities for the department and be able to help in all problem resolution matters.
  • Make recommendations on process improvements and standardization to gain greater efficiency and effectiveness within the finance organization and other special projects as required.


Qualifications & Experiences

  • BA/BS degree in Finance or Accounting.
  • CPA or equivalent.
  • 10+ years previous work experience in an accounting or finance field.
  • 3-5 years prior management experience.
  • Highly motivated, analytical, proactive, and self-sufficient
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with people on all levels.
  • Must have the ability to pay close attention to detail and understand written and oral instructions.
  • Must have the ability to organize and schedule work effectively.
  • Must have the ability to multi-task projects simultaneously and be able to prioritize.
  • Must be able to adapt in a changing environment and quickly learn new concepts, solve problems, and implement solutions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office/Excel.
  • Must be able to work reasonable overtime, if necessary.
  • Exhibits strong time management skills and works to meet or exceed all deadlines.
  • Exhibits strong follow up skills to ensure assignments are completed by onshore/offshore staff.
  • Must be willing and able to travel internationally.
  • Fluent or near fluent in English.

Desirable

  • Entertainment industry experience.
  • Experience working with large amounts of data.
  • Experience with SAP.
  • Working in shared service and/or outsourcing environment.
  • Previous “Big 4” accounting experience.
