A Brief Summary of This Position:
The Purchasing Manager is responsible for sourcing strategy development and execution with a strong focus on material cost optimization. Responsibilities include managing commodity spend, negotiations, e-procurement commerce, supplier development/score cards, inventory management, cost reductions, contract management, supplier partnering and interaction with all other key stakeholders to and for the operations. The role coordinates communication and data flow between manufacturing, supply chain and demand management, and ERP business processes.
This is an on-site professional exemption salaried position
Starting pay range (LG41): $104,900 - $131,100
Eligible for annual discretionary bonus
Essential Functions:
This position reports to the Senior Plant Manager and has direct reports
Support the sourcing strategy development and execution for the Brenham, TX facility
Responsible for the planning, procurement and farm-out of commodities necessary for production, which are sourced and purchased according to specifications and brought in on a timely basis
Implement policies and metrics to ensure that savings goals are realized
Development and execution of purchasing inventory strategies and plans
Responsible for the approval of all purchase requisitions for inventory items
Responsible for collaboration with counterparts from Production Control, Sales, Operations, Engineering, Quality Assurance and Finance
Directs expediting so that arrival date changes are determined in advance and the changes are communicated to specified parties in a timely way
Responsible for reducing non-standard inventory by applying, or assisting Sales or Scheduling in applying, non-standard inventory to customer orders where appropriate and approved. Regularly prepares and distributes to Sales and Scheduling a list of available non-standard inventory
Prepares documentation for analyzing past inventory trends and projecting future inventory requirements as requested
Manage the successful delivery and transportation of outbound work in progress and finished goods in the most efficient and cost-effective manner
Manage the overall activities of the department’s personnel while ensuring a safe work area, appropriate staffing levels, corrective action records, performance management process and succession planning
Maintain compliance with all regulatory requirements and ethical standards related to product deliveries
This role requires up to 15% travel (domestically), including overnight stays

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
Preferred Bachelors with 6+ years’ relevant experience or Associates Degree with 8+ year’s relevant experience or 10+ years of relevant experience
10+ years of previous leadership experience in a Manufacturing or Supply Chain role
Previous experience in sales, operations, operations planning, master scheduling, production planning, inventory control or production control within an MRP/ERP environment
APICS' (C.P.I.M.) Certified Purchasing Manager or Certified Professional in Inventory Management Certification
Extensive experience in dealing with customers at all levels (both internal and external)
Demonstrated initiative to make decisions, lead issues towards resolution, demonstrate complete follow-through and take timely action
Ability to work with numbers and perform basic arithmetic calculations accurately
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Products including Excel, Word, and Outlook
Demonstrated strengths in interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to adapt to the audience and professionally communicate with a variety of people
A person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results
Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:
MBA and/or related discipline
10 to 15+ years in logistics, supply chain management, procurement, or business management
Extensive MRP/ERP system experience
Strong goal orientation: specifically, the ability to focus on goal attainment and obtain predetermined results effectively and efficiently
Demonstrated experience and results within a lean manufacturing environment
The ability to solve complex problems with high attention to detail and work in a fast-paced environment subject to specific deadlines
Working Environment and Physical Efforts:
Work is typically performed in an office setting; however, the incumbent may be required to go into the production or shipping/receiving areas. While visiting the manufacturing areas of the plant, the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required at all times. The incumbent is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, as well as talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings. The environment is fast-paced and demanding most of the time. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computer. The employee is occasionally required to move about the office. Incumbent must utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such as to monitor height and positions, keyboard location and height and proper wrists rests. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds in working with large files, binders, and computer equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
