About the Job

The Red Hat Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team is seeking a Director, Site Reliability Engineering to join our team. Red Hat SRE is responsible for our flagship managed OpenShift cloud service offerings: ROSA (Red Hat OpenShift Service on AWS), ARO (Azure Red Hat OpenShift), and OSD (OpenShift Dedicated) on GCP, which are used by Red Hat’s largest customers in enterprise, high tech, and the public sector. As a Director of SRE, you’ll lead a region of SRE teams (both managers and senior engineering leads) in the development and operations of our managed OpenShift services.

As a leader and face of this team to external customers and account teams in your region, you'll directly contribute to Red Hat's success in the rapidly growing Kubernetes-as-a-service market.

What You'll Do

  • Hire, develop, and retain SRE Managers and SRE engineering leads, developing and operating Red Hat’s managed OpenShift service offerings

  •  

    Coach Managers and engineering leads on SRE principles: automation, toil reduction, and root cause analysis

  • Manage high-visibility project delivery, including estimation, schedule, risks, and dependencies

  • As the face of SRE in your region, meet with customers in pre-sales and post-sales situations, supporting deep-dive conversations on product capabilities and escalation / problem resolution surrounding incidents

  • Design processes and communication norms that facilitate coordination across a fast-moving, fast-growing, diverse global team

  • Lead your team through frequent changes in organization, process, and technology commensurate with a high growth cloud service in a competitive market

  • Resolve customer issues in cooperation with Red Hat's global customer support team

  • Participate in a periodic 24x7 management escalation on-call rotation

  • Design organizational structures to support a global team experiencing rapid growth

  • Negotiate priorities and tradeoffs with product management and engineers

What You'll Bring

  • 8+ years experience managing engineering teams

  • 4+ years managing engineering managers

  • 4+ years leading distributed, remote teams working across multiple time zones

  • Ability to discuss complex technical issues with SREs, product managers and less-technical stakeholders, including customers and senior leaders

  • 8+ years with project management methodologies such as Agile Scrum, Kanban

  • 1+ years of experience with cloud providers such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Compute Engine (GCE), or Microsoft Azure

  • 1+ year(s) of experience with Kubernetes is a plus

The salary range for this position is $192,400.00 - $327,110.00. Actual offer will be based on your qualifications.

Pay Transparency

Red Hat determines compensation based on several factors including but not limited to job location, experience, applicable skills and training, external market value, and internal pay equity. Annual salary is one component of Red Hat’s compensation package. This position may also be eligible for bonus, commission, and/or equity. For positions with Remote-US locations, the actual salary range for the position may differ based on location but will be commensurate with job duties and relevant work experience.
