Key Position Details:

This position is located at the Abbott Northwestern Wasie Building

  • 1.0 FTE (80 hours every two weeks)
  • No weekends--No major Holidays

Job Description:

Provides Employee Occupational Health program support for all Allina Health staff and incorporates high reliability principles and tools into these efforts. Supports staff after work-related physical and emotional harm events, communicable disease exposure and illness, and workplace accommodations. The occupational health nurse serves as a case manager and collaborates with Allina health staff, leaders, and other support departments. Participates in well-being and illness and injury prevention initiatives.

Principle Responsibilities

  • Assess, triage, and provide first aid treatment and education for workplace injury and illness through both on-site and remote means.
    • Makes referrals for ongoing medical care and return to work following Employee Occupational Health guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Serve as primary case manager and liaison for health care workers requiring services from workers compensation, job accommodation or other types of illness or disability resources.
    • Maintains occupational health documentation and submits Workers’ Compensation claims when applicable
    • Consults with providers and others as needed.
  • Promote and educate staff and leaders on employee occupational health topics including but not limited to infection control, well-being, employee safety, and personal protective equipment as it relates to a pandemic or medical outbreak event.
  • Complete new hire health screen assessments to ensure all new hires are in-compliance with immunization requirements and are medically ready for employment.
  • Provide guidance to Allina Health to meet standards of regulatory bodies including Minnesota Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), local and state public health, Department of Labor and others.
  • Promote a safety culture through administering immunizations to new hires and current staff. Organize and assists with regulatory medical surveillance programs.
  • Participate in process improvement and program development work groups and efforts.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications

  • Associate's or Vocational degree in Nursing
  • 2 to 5 years experience in nursing


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing
  • Master's degree in Public Health or Occupational Health
  • 0 to 2 years experience in occupational health


Licenses/Certifications

  • Licensed Registered Nurse - MN Board of Nursing required upon hire
  • Licensed Registered Nurse - WI Dept of Safety & Professional Services required upon hire
  • BLS Tier 1 - Basic Life Support - Multisource required American Heart Association or Allina Health
