The Role:

The Manager of Laboratory Services holds a key position within our organization, tailored for a leader distinguished by exceptional people management abilities, operational finesse, and clinical expertise. This role involves dynamic engagement in strategic collaboration with cross-functional teams to champion initiatives aimed at elevating the client experience and optimizing service delivery. Additionally, it plays a pivotal role in advancing our on-site lab's testing capabilities and expanding lab services across multiple sites.

The Accountabilities:

  • Oversee the provision of effective, efficient, and high-quality lab services, meticulously managing staff, equipment, supplies, and space.
  • Lead recruitment, selection, training, and performance management of lab team members (lab technologists, technicians/assistants, and phlebotomists).
  • Support procurement and management of laboratory supplies and equipment.
  • Supervise quality control testing, maintenance, and calibration of all lab equipment.
  • Develop, update, implement, and monitor compliance with lab policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Manage lab-related adverse events and client escalations; identify root causes and implement actions to minimize reoccurrence or eliminate future risk.
  • Analyze lab operational performance against KPIs and establish action plans for continuous improvement of lab service delivery and cost-effectiveness.
  • Communicate and escalate lab-related issues, ideas, and recommendations to cross-functional teams and upper management as required.
  • Foster strong relationships with external lab partners and internal stakeholders.
  • Cultivate a positive, respectful, engaged team environment rooted in Medcan values.
  • Provide direct clinical support in the lab to ensure optimal lab operations when required.

  • Proficient in analytical and process improvement methodologies.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Exceptional customer service and conflict management abilities.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated coaching, mentoring, and people management expertise.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

The Requirements:

  • Registered membership in good standing with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO) and the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS).
  • A Baccalaureate Degree in a health-related discipline.
  • A minimum of 3 years of management/leadership experience involving multidisciplinary teams.
  • 5 years of Core Lab experience and evidence of a strong technical/clinical background in Laboratory Services.

This is a permanent Full-Time position scheduled for 8.5 hour shifts primarily between Monday to Friday within the hours of 6am and 7:30pm. This position maybe be required to work weekends on a scheduled basis.
