Pattern offers outsourced marketplace management services for brands as well as strategic consultancy services worldwide. The consulting division is central to the business in many ways, generating revenue through paid consulting work, acting as a lead generation function for marketplace clients, and as an internal support function for our partner brands, identifying growth opportunities for the brands we represent, helping them to accelerate into new markets and channels. 

We are looking for a dynamic Director of Strategy who has experience in winning and delivering client projects in the field of ecommerce. An established network and proven experience in bringing on new business is key. You will report to the President of Advisory and work closely with them to deliver growth across the department and wider business by supporting external brand partners as they grow their ecommerce business. You’ll work with internal stakeholders closely, understanding their pain points and consulting with them on potential solutions, helping execute and oversee to completion. You’ll also interface directly with the CEO and President of Advisory on mergers and acquisitions, providing valuable insight and making quick and immediate impact within the company.

What is a day in the life of a Director of Strategy?

You will be pivotal in bringing on new clients, focusing on developing a network in the industry, actively reaching out to potential brands, and pulling together pitches and proposals. You’ll know how to present ecommerce consultancy services to brands and know what it takes to secure their business. 

To secure new clients, you will have the ability to understand the direction an organization’s ecommerce needs to take to grow. A conceptual visionary thinker, you understand ecommerce and how digital channels play within an Omnichannel strategy and understand the levers that can be pulled to improve performance.

You will be knowledgeable of and/or experienced in areas such as customer experience, DTC, digital marketing, and international expansion.You will identify client problems and carve out strategic project solutions to help brands understand what direction they should take their ecommerce business in or how they can solve specific problems such as: What markets to enter first? How do I improve my Omnichannel customer experience? Is an Amazon3P modelright for my brand?

Key Outcomes/Objectives

  • Actively identifying and engaging with clients securing new business for the consultancy team to meet agreed KPIs

  • Manage the profitability of large projects, maximizing revenue or decreasing costs where appropriate, in line with our entrepreneurial spirit

  • Defining strategies for online growth for clients and supporting the implementation of best-in-class ecommerce offerings

  • Assessing the product offering and developing new verticals and commercial propositions to ensure Pattern remains a leader in ecommerce consultancy

  • Helping the President of Advisory define strategies for online growth for clients and supporting the implementation of best in class ecommerce offerings

  • Deriving insight from data and applying this to build out commercially sound strategies

  • Overseeing and assisting with presentation building, research, and analysis, drafting proposals and pitches

  • Managing internal and client relationships and liaising with stakeholders on a daily basis

  • Supporting Pattern’s Marketplace Trading arm, offering consulting support for brand partners and internal strategic support where required

  • Project managing and overseeing the final delivery of client work

  • Conducting research (competitor research, scorecards, benchmarking analysis, market research) and analyzing and forecasting patterns in research data.

What will I need to thrive in this role?

REQUIRED:

  • University degree in a relevant subject

  • An established senior leader with experience in a management consultancy, ecommerce or marketing agency managing multiple clients.

  • Proven track record of bringing on new business for consultancy services

  • Team management, managing direct reports and cross functional teams

  • Demonstrable knowledge of ecommerce and brand growth strategy

  • Strategic mindset and commercial awareness.

  • Exceptional communication skills

PREFERRED:

  • International experience – working on sites and marketplaces across Europe and the Rest of the World

  • Expert in MS Office, particularly Excel for data processing, and PPT for client presentations.

  • Experience at a multichannel retailer, ideally across multiple departments.

  • Familiarity with Amazon and other marketplaces and how they operate.
