Manager, Contracts - Retail Scheduled Services

Job Description:

The Manager, Contracts will be supporting the contract needs for Retail Scheduled Services Team, and will be reporting to the Director. Retail Scheduled Services. The primary responsibilities of the Manager are to successfully negotiate complex major contracts such as Master Agreements, Statements of Work, Evaluation Agreements, License Agreements, Automation Agreements, and Amendments, draft certain clauses, lead administrative tasks such as creating workspaces in our contract management technology platform Jaggaer, and acquire approvals and signatures per the Commitment Approval Policy. This role requires the individual to collaborate with multiple stakeholders including Sourcing Managers, various Stakeholders, Privacy, Security, Risk Management, Audit, Compliance, Finance, and the Legal department to ensure that all terms and conditions stated in contracts are in line with Loblaw’s standard strategic objectives. It is also essential to organize, triage, and communicate priorities with stakeholders to move files forward.

Accountabilities:

  • Negotiate required contract documents (Master Agreements, Statements of Works, Evaluation Agreements, Amendments etc.) by applying a strong knowledge of contract law, company policy, and feedback from Stakeholders.
  • Draft certain clauses within contracts for multiple stakeholders to review with legal counsel guidance.
  • Lead Business Stakeholders through recommended processes related to contract documents (termination requests, SLA language, scope commitments, breach incidents, etc.).
  • Assist with the development of contract summaries, including risk summaries, for senior executive’s review.
  • Analyze and verify that legal terms in all contracts are in line with procurement objectives, legal requirements, and policies.
  • Analyze the potential for restructuring existing contracts or performing contract refreshes for additional benefits and reduced risk.
  • Assist with inquiries from Business Stakeholders related to contract documents.
  • Perform administrative tasks, including opening and publishing Jaggaer contract workspaces to obtain approvals and signatures per the Commitment Approval Policy.
  • Explain certain legal contractual terms to Business Stakeholders in plain language.

  • Strong understanding of contract provisions and risk identification
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent prioritization skills
  • Great teammate with proven interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective working relationships throughout the organization
  • Ability to work with and communicate effectively to all levels of management
  • Strong project management, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to quickly learn about procurement contract management processes
  • Ability to function effectively in a busy, team-oriented, fast-paced environment
  • Consistent track record of meeting or exceeding objectives and goals
  • Contract drafting and negotiating skills
  • Legal background with some legal education and experience would be an asset
  • Experience in reviewing IT, Supply Chain and Global Sourcing contracts would be an asset

What you will need:

  • 4-5 years of contract management experience, including drafting and negotiating contracts
  • External legal education or other legal qualifications would be an asset
  • PC skills (contract databases, Word, SharePoint)
  • Knowledge of IT, Supply Chain and Global Sourcing an asset
  • Experience with Jaggaer or other contract management technology and DocuSign an asset
