The Maternal/Child Nursing Assistant II works under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and is responsible to the Maternity Center Manager. This role actively participates in patient care routines assisting with activities of daily living and specific technical tasks with consideration for the age of the patient.  


A caregiver in this position works Day/Night Rotation, variable days from 7:00am—7:30pm or 7:00pm—7:30am. They will also work every other weekend and every other holiday.


A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Provide quality care in a customer focused considerate manner respecting the patient’s rights. 

  • Document care provided following established guidelines. 

  • Function as the scrub tech for surgical procedures completed on the Obstetrical Department/Maternity Center and performs sterile surgical preps. 

  • Complete indirect care activities including preparation and storage of surgical instruments, equipment and supplies needed for the efficient operation of all areas of the nursing unit and all other duties as assigned. 

  • Respond to patient call lights so that appropriate follow-through. 

  • Provide concierge service to assist patients and families with finding a way finding and directs them to available resources. 

  • Assemble and maintain patient medical records and other documents related to patient care. 

  • Prepare for operative procedures on the Maternity Center and practice sterile technique throughout entire operative procedure. 

  • Assist with the opening of sterile and non-sterile supplies in preparation for a procedure. 

  • Collaborate with other members of the health care team to provide the best patient care. 

  • Complete necessary forms, requisitions, and communications with attention to detail and accuracy. 

  • Maintain patient medical record in appropriate and sequential order: files reports in accurate, timely manner. 

  • Assist in troubleshooting equipment failures such as call system, portable phones, WOWs, and other unit devices. 

  • Communicate clearly and exhibit appropriate follow-up to prevent service delays. 

 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • High School Diploma/GED. 

  • BLS required through the American Heart Association 


Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Microsoft Office experience.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination

  • Requires frequent data entry, standing and walking for extensive periods of time

  • Requires normal or corrected speech, hearing, and vision

  • Requires some exposure to communicable disease or bodily fluids

  • Medium work – Exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. frequently, and/or 10 lbs. constantly.
