Overview of Position

The Accounting Supervisor, Premium Accounting Services (PAS) will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Global Auto billing and payments team(s). This position is responsible for the team(s)’s preparation, processing, documentation, control compliance, as well as reporting and delivery of accounting services.  Position relies on supervisory experience in a corporate environment and judgment to plan and accomplish goals and is familiar with a variety of process concepts, accounting best practices, and procedures.  The supervisor will accomplish work through others, primarily in partnership with an outsourcing provider and will be responsible for service level and performance metric compliance. Primary job functions require attention to detail, customer service mindset, and adaptability in a fast-paced, changing environment.    

What will be my responsibilities for this position?

Operational Excellence 60%

  • Considered a leader and/or technical expert in billing and payments and can ensure requirements are understood and met by internal and external resources.

  • Ensures monthly, quarterly, and year-end activities are completed timely and effectively.

  • Develops and maintains relations with business segments, stakeholders, customers, and outsourcing partner.

  • Formulates, develops and administers procedures necessary to implement approved policies and procedures and provides the overall direction necessary to ensure the delivery of efficient and effective processes.  Will be required to approve work performed by the outsourcing partner team.

  • Understands and supports an environment of effective controls within the department.  Ensures all team members understand company and regulatory requirements (i.e. SOX, record retention, audit, etc.) and are continually verifying all their actions and processes to support Assurant’s values.

  • Prioritize and manage  workload to ensure deliverable dates are met.

  • Ensures documentation of process and procedures is current and accurate.

  • Incorporates continuous process improvement mindset by being efficient and developing best practice solutions, as well as identifying savings opportunities.

  • Liaison between internal and external stakeholders, responsible for monitoring performance and quality metrics, resolving, improving, or escalating issues.

  • Drive governance with external TPA.

Projects 20%

  • Actively participate in multiple functional and enterprise projects of moderate to large scale by providing subject matter expertise or leadership in billing and payments/accounting.

  • Accountable for preparing required project deliverables as it pertains to assigned function, including but not limited to, written process documentation, operational impact analysis and status updates.

  • Maintains positive relationships with cross-functional stakeholders to effectively collaborate during projects.

  • Understands and complies with established corporate standards, controls and policies impacting a project. This includes, but is not limited to, accounting, finance, security, audit and records management.

  • Ensures outsourced team understands project needs and is appropriately prepared for operational execution.

  • Play a supporting role for functional areas of responsibilities in acquisitions and divestitures as appropriate.

Analysis/Solution Generation 10%

  • Identify likely causes of problems and determine appropriate solutions, weighing advantages and disadvantages of each.  Systematically break down complex issues into manageable parts.

  • Consider cross-functional, division, and organizational implications of solution alternatives.

  • Recommend appropriate actions based on an understanding of potential increase to process efficiency, productivity, and return on investment, support for company strategic objectives or other project/business drivers.

  • Remain flexible and creative while generating solutions to problems.

  • Keeps up-to-date on latest functional, management and process trends to identify and implement best practices when generating solutions

  • Ability to work with other internal departments to resolve process or system issues.

  • Develop effective relationships and information flows to maintain an awareness of strategic Corporate and business segment projects that impact functional areas.

Organization, Communication and Prioritization 10%

  • Assists in building relationships throughout the organization and continually strives to identify ways in which areas of responsibility can assist the business and corporate segments to achieve their goals.      

  • Ensures outsourced team understands strategy and is appropriately connected to strategy through operating goals and measurements.

  • Handles multiple assignments concurrently.

  • Escalates risks promptly.

  • Accepts direction, feedback and coaching.

  • Fosters an environment which encourages clear communication and feedback.

What are the requirements needed for this position?

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s  degree in Accounting, Finance, related field or equivalent experience preferred

  • Minimum of 5 years of general accounting experience including accounting systems and related control processes

  • Minimum of 2  years supervisory experience

Knowledge and Skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

  • Experience working with accounting systems, specifically billing and payments

  • Understanding of variety of progressive accounting practices and procedures

  • Working knowledge of regulatory requirements (i.e. GAAP, MAR, SOX, audits)

  • Problem analysis and resolution at a functional level; critical thinking skills

  • Detailed and results oriented

  • Experience working and building effective relationships in a multi-site, multi-function environment with the complexities of meeting the diverse needs of multiple business lines

  • Experience leading cross functional teams and promoting collaboration and teamwork

  • Ability to multi-task, work well under pressure and perform in a fast paced environment

  • Ability to identify critical tasks and resources necessary to achieve desired objectives

  • Strong organizational abilities with a high level of written and interpersonal communications skills in order to communicate effectively with various levels of management and staff personnel

  • Proficient in Agile project methodology

What other skills/experience would be helpful to have?

  • Minimum of 2 years of billing and payments experience preferred

  • Minimum of 2 years working in a shared services environment preferred

  • Minimum of 1 year working with outsourcing partners preferred

  • CPA or CMA,  preferred

Travel up to 5%

Pay Range:

$71,300.00 - $119,100.00

Any posted pay range considers a wide range of compensation factors, including candidate background, experience and work location, while also allowing for salary growth within the position.
