PRN Unit Clerk – Neonatal ICU

When a baby arrives, there is a whirlwind of activity and emotions. If a baby is born early (prematurely) or needs additional medical attention, those emotions can go into overdrive. Patients may feel scared, confused, nervous, overwhelmed — or even alone. Our expert team in Akron General’s Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is ready to provide little ones with the very best care right away. Caregivers in the NICU are known for their positive first impressions, friendliness, smiles and expert knowledge of policies (visitation, hand washing, etc.).
A caregiver in this position works 7:00am – 3:30pm and 11:00pm – 7:30am.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Perform administrative and clerical duties.
Conduct an in-person greeting and welcome newly admitted and transferred patients to the unit.
Communicate with and facilitate communication between patients, families, other departments and healthcare team members regarding patient care.
Assist with processing patient admissions, transfers and discharges.
Provide concierge service to assist patients and families with wayfinding and directing them to available resources.
Assemble and maintain patient medical records and other documents related to patient care.
Troubleshoot equipment.
Respond to patient call lights.
Keep nursing stations clean and organized.
Complete mandatory education and training.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
High school diploma or GED.
One year of experience in a customer service-related role.
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Microsoft Office experience.
