Job Description:

Job Summary:

The incumbent of this position is responsible for overseeing the nursing staff and overall nursing operations of the healthcare facility. The duties include evaluating and directing nursing associates, establishing goals for the nursing department and creating and enforcing healthcare policies.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Functions in accordance with organization Policies and Procedures and within his/her professional code of ethics.

  • Within limits of experience, educational background, and organization time commitments, presents educational material to promote community understanding of mental health and to enhance community response to mental health problems.

  • Participates in emergency services, during times of disaster, in order to provide rapid aid in cases of medical crisis.

  • Provides and/or coordinates a follow-up contact for complaints/concerns.

  • Participates in and contributes to the various staff development activities of the organization.

  • Is sensitive and responsible to management needs, such as data collection, program evaluation, development of grant applications, etc.

  • Participates in all required meetings.

  • Regularly participates in evaluation of self and assigned staff according to organization Policies and Procedures.                                                                                                         

  • Is responsive to all Quality Assurance procedures of the organization, cooperates with utilization review procedures, and follows established procedures, rules and regulations of the Clinical Records Department.

  • Coordinates nursing services for designated/assigned programs/locations.

  • Provide oversight for all nurses and clinical nursing functions, assuring all client medical and medication records are accurate and up-to-date.

  • Responsible for scheduling, training, supervising and evaluating nursing staff to include facilitating disciplinary processes, as necessary.

  • Ensure adequate nursing coverage.

  • Provide nursing staff consultation and support to include trouble-shooting

  • client/staff issues as they arise.

  • Review nursing incident reports; provide follow-up as needed.

  • Oversee nurse on-call duties.  

  • Assist with Telehealth functions in clinical setting.

  • Offer input relevant to the periodic revision of Policies and Procedures from a clinical perspective.

  • Monitors productivity to maximize revenues and participates in budgeting as necessary.

  • Assist Director of Medical Staff Coordination in trouble-shooting physician issues as necessary.

  • Participate in monthly Provider meetings.

  • Facilitate in all nursing meetings. 

  • Other duties as assigned by Leadership.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Shall be able to establish effective relationships via telephone and personal contacts.

  • Shall be able to follow direction and accept supervision. 

  • Demonstrate computer literacy, word processing, and data entry skills.

  • Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. 

  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. 

  • Ability to communicate effectively before groups of residents, employees of the organization, family members and other contacts in the community.

Experience and Education Qualifications:

  • Must have a valid Registered Nursing License (RN).

  • Experience with psychiatric nursing or related field.

  • BSN – Nursing; highly preferred -  Advanced Practice Nurse.

Supervisory Requirements:

  • Communicate the strategic direction of the organization and encourage participation by all employees.

  • Provide leadership and guidance to all aspects of the department.

  • Take an active role in monitoring the identification, development, and execution of strategic objectives.

  • Involve, as appropriate, all employees in order to achieve goals.

  • Effectively communicate to employees any changes and news worthy events within the department or company.

  • Handle difficult employee situations directly, using appropriate discretion and Human Resource advice to show respect for the individual

  • Champion change and effectively manage the implementation of new ideas.

  • Reinforces team approach throughout functions; support and solicit input from team members at all levels with the company.

Employment Requirements:

  • Successful completion of background check including criminal record, driving record, abuse/neglect and fingerprint check..

  • Completion of New Hire Orientation at the beginning of employment.

  • All training requirements including Relias at the beginning of employment and annually thereafter.

  • Current driver’s license, acceptable driving record and current auto insurance.

Physical Requirements:

ADA Consideration - Sedentary work:  Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (exists up the 1/3 of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently (exists 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) to lift, carry, push, or pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.  Repetitive movements of hands, fingers, and arms for typing and/or writing during work shift.

Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.  Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
