Job Description:

General Description: The Director of Creative Services is responsible for leading and coordinating the creation of a consistent, effective, and positive professional image of the healthcare enterprise. The Director of Creative Services is the creative/design and brand manager for materials created and published by the organization or the public, whether they be publications, consumer information, posters, signage, apparel or various collateral and promotional items.  Expert knowledge of these areas are required to assure that OU Health is at the forefront in graphic design to play a key role in the marketing and communications strategies of OU Health. The Director of Creative Services is responsible for education and management of the OU Health brand standard guidelines throughout the healthcare enterprise.

  • Oversees brand identity; develop and control the brand standard guidelines when it comes to logo creation and usage, signage and consistent graphic direction across all health system brands.
  • Responsible for brand standard compliance for all logo usage. 
  • Responsible for leading the team, developing creative guidelines and directing creative work, providing creative direction, project management and implementing process improvement initiatives for creative production work; creates and executes designs concepts for campaigns; facilitates the appropriate training and professional development of the team and its members and creates and maintains an engaging work environment.
  • Approves logo usage for all exterior and internal signage throughout the organization following OU Healths branding and signage guidelines.
  • Responsible for the overall quality of design work and manage steps in the creative design and production process for printed materials
  • Coordinates requests and leads photography shoots.
  • Responsible for project scheduling and coordination, specifically prioritizing projects, delegating project tasks and work in conjunction with internal and external resources toward the completion of projects. Provides project tracking and maintain schedule of design and production jobs. Act as coordinator between Coordinators and Creative Services teams.
  • Arranges and leads creative sessions for project kick-offs, supervise and inspire the creative team; generates multiple concepts for campaign development; provide quality control over concepts and projects from concept to completion. This includes working with the internal marketing team to develop and generate advertising that supports strategic initiatives and presents concept ideas to management team and clients
  • Oversees the project management software used by the department. Leads a production operation and builds ongoing process improvement procedures. Utilize traffic management tools and resources inside our project management software to maintain data relative to project workflow, tasks, progress, deadlines and resource allocation. Generate reports, charts and graphs relative to project trafficking needs.
  • Responsible for all service mark, trademark and federal registered trademark request.
  • Maintains state-of-the-art knowledge of visual communication technology, including printing, production processes, photography, and exhibit technology. Plans and makes recommendations for the periodic upgrading of the Macintosh-based graphic design workstations and associated software.
  • Builds and maintains solid working relationships with creative services vendors to benefit the organization. This includes evaluating vendors, obtaining competitive bids, maintaining accountability on timelines and quality standards, checking quality at delivery, negotiating credits when necessary, and doing press checks and vendor visits at appropriate intervals.
  • Routinely receives requests for detailed information on materials, programs and/or campaigns previously managed through the department. Must be able to access history of work and offer current/updated information if dramatically different. Requires top of mind knowledge on all elements of marketing production. Possess the ability to address a variety of requests and propose viable solutions as necessary.
  • Works with internal printing for decisions concerning the production schedule and outsourcing of printing.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university, preferably in marketing, advertising or business

Experience:  Minimum of a two (2) year technical degree in graphic design is required; 8-10 years related graphic design experience required; Bachelors Degree in a graphics art-related degree preferred

License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required:  Current Driver’s License and that the employee is insurable by the OU Medicine automobile liability insurance carrier.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

REQUIRED COMMUNICATION/MATHEMATICAL/REASONING SKILLS:

  • Must possess the required level of skills and abilities to read, write, speak, and apply mathematical concepts and sound reasoning to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this job.
  • Must be able to perform basic operations on a computer within the Windows operating system.
