Job Description:

The Director of Store Systems & Technologies leads the strategy, delivery, and ongoing performance of all technology used in RaceTrac stores. This role ensures our store teams have reliable, intuitive tools that support great guest experiences and strong operational results. You’ll partner closely with Operations, Marketing, and cross‑functional leaders to align technology solutions with RaceTrac’s business goals and long‑term growth strategy.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the vision, roadmap, and execution for all store technology platforms and systems
• Ensure store technologies are reliable, secure, scalable, and aligned with business needs
• Partner with Operations, Marketing, and other business units to understand needs and translate them into technology solutions
• Oversee vendor relationships, contracts, and performance for store technology products and services
• Manage budgeting, forecasting, and resource planning for store technology initiatives
• Drive continuous improvement, innovation, and simplification of store systems
• Ensure successful rollout, adoption, and support of new technologies across all stores
• Build, mentor, and develop a high‑performing team focused on operational excellence and service delivery.

Success Measures (First 6–12 Months)

• Establish a clear, actionable store technology roadmap aligned with business priorities
• Improve system reliability, uptime, and support responsiveness
• Strengthen partnerships with Operations and Marketing through consistent communication and delivery
• Successfully lead at least one major store technology upgrade or implementation
• Build trust with store teams by demonstrating a deep understanding of their needs and challenges
• Implement measurable improvements in store technology performance, cost efficiency, or user experience.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Proven leadership experience overseeing store, retail, or field technology systems

  •  Experience managing budgets, contracts, resources, and large‑scale initiatives

  • Strong background in technology strategy, system implementation, and vendor management

  • Ability to build cross‑functional relationships and influence at all levels

  • Strong communication and problem‑solving skills

  • Ability to lead teams through change and drive adoption of new technologies

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in convenience retail, fuel, QSR, or similar multi‑unit environments

  • Knowledge of POS, back‑office systems, payment technologies, and store networking

  • Familiarity with ITIL, service management, or operational support frameworks

  • Experience with innovation, emerging retail tech, or digital transformation initiatives

Who You’ll Work With

Reports to: Vice President of Retail and Digital Technologies
Works closely with: Operations, Marketing, IT Infrastructure, Digital, Finance, and external technology partners

Responsibilities:

  • Researches, develops, deploys, communicates and maintains in store technology and related solutions.
  • Develops and maintains strong business partner relationships, accountabilities, service level monitoring and budgetary commitments via formal monthly formats.
  • Executes strategic initiatives as defined by technology executive management.
  • Serves as the subject matter expert for all facets of point of sale, pump, peripherals and back office solutions within the store environment for traditional locations, prototypes and travel centers.
  • Demonstrates experience in improving store operations by introducing new and creative applications of technology and software in partnership with Operations leadership.
  • Manages the 24x7 Help Desk function ensuring high levels of service are delivered to our stores. Develops appropriate scorecards for each application and utilizes the results from daily calls as indicators of improvement.
  • Develops and leads a team of highly skilled business, technology and staff members tasked with supporting strategic initiatives as well as promoting new processes and procedures that enhance the return on investment made in our in store technologies.
  • Manages department expenses to include all staff, service and business partner expenses within established guidelines.
  • Maintains current knowledge base related to all regulated and internal compliance requirements.
  • Provides IT management forward looking plans for maintaining compliance across all spectrums of in-store technology after coordinating with department peers.
  • Defines job duties, maintains current position descriptions, hires staff (both full-time and contractor positions), conducts performance appraisals and salary reviews.
  • Regularly reviews the skill sets of the staff and assist in creating individual development plans.
  • Provides input into IT strategic plan. Contributes to the development of the annual IT budget.
  • Effectively manages client relationships and requests for IT services. Reviews requests, coordinates IT cost estimates, and assists clients in benefit analysis & prioritization.
  • Effectively manages assigned projects and programs either directly or by overseeing project leaders and program managers. Reviews and approves project team structures, staffing, project plans, project budgets and delivers regular status reporting to IT management.
  • Provides resource planning, workload smoothing, and coordinates roles and responsibilities within assigned area.
