Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Principal Systems Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Colorado Springs, CO.

Position Overview:

The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program integrates the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, to see the battle develop collectively, and to dynamically manage designated networked sensors and weapons systems to achieve global and regional mission objectives. C2BMC supports a layered missile defense capability that enables an optimized response to threats of all ranges in all phases of flight. C2BMC is the force multiplier that globally and regionally networks integrate, synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations to optimize performance. C2BMC is integral to all system ground and flight tests, which verify and exercise all current and future missile defense system capabilities.

The successful Principal Systems Engineer will Develop use cases and prepare systems engineering artifacts, including the definition of Epics and Features, under the direction of the Engineering Support ART, to be developed by program Cross-Functional Product Teams to implement customer-requested capabilities. The Systems Engineer will be actively involved in the efforts associated with Agile development, including iteration planning, status, and agile team leadership.

Essential Functions:

  • Support the development and review of interface documents, system requirements, Verification Cross Reference Matrix (VCRM) development, architectural documentation, system engineering estimates, and author and perform formal and informal engineering reviews.
  • Provide use case development support to junior systems engineering team members to enhance use case skills in the department.
  • Ability to be flexible and support various tasks on short notice.
  • Work will be performed under the direction of the ART and various product owners and require interfacing with team members, C2BMC management, and government customers to ensure high-quality products are generated on time and within the resources available.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively and clearly present technical approaches and findings. The ability to write and implement engineering plans within a project
  • Experience working in an integrated team environment with other systems, software, and specialty engineers to develop solutions.
  • Demonstrated contributions to implementation that include the ability to analyze high-level needs and define a structured and logical approach to refine the capability into an integrated set of requirements that led to a fielded product.
  • Demonstrated the ability to communicate effectively and clearly present technical approaches and findings.
  • Experience in writing and implementing engineering plans within a project.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 5 years of related experience, or a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years experience, or a PhD and 0 years of experience.
  • Must possess an understanding of systems engineering processes and principles.
  • Must have Relevant Experience working in an integrated team environment with other systems and specialty engineers to develop solutions that include a background in all systems development life cycle aspects.
  • Must have a proven track record of successfully applying system engineering principles to develop product solutions.
  • Experience developing system engineering artifacts (e.g., specifications, Interface Control Documents, Use Cases, System Architecture Descriptions, Trade Studies, etc.).
  • Adhering to DOORS processes and procedures, reviewing the content and details of technical products, and acting as a technical interface to MDA working-level counterparts on an as-required basis.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up-to 10% to support business needs.
  • Applicants must have a current active in-scope DoD issued secret security clearance at the time of application which is required to start; with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active Top Secret clearance is highly desired.
  • Experience working within an Agile development environment, Domain experience with Space and Missile Defense.
  • Experience with Systems Analysis, Metric Development, MBSE, and Architecture development.

Salary Range: $97,500.00 - $146,300.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
