Who we are

Samsara (NYSE: IOT) is the pioneer of the Connected Operations™ Cloud, which is a platform that enables organizations that depend on physical operations to harness Internet of Things (IoT) data to develop actionable insights and improve their operations. At Samsara, we are helping improve the safety, efficiency and sustainability of the physical operations that power our global economy. Representing more than 40% of global GDP, these industries are the infrastructure of our planet, including agriculture, construction, field services, transportation, and manufacturing — and we are excited to help digitally transform their operations at scale.

Working at Samsara means you’ll help define the future of physical operations and be on a team that’s shaping an exciting array of product solutions, including Video-Based Safety, Vehicle Telematics, Apps and Driver Workflows, Equipment Monitoring, and Site Visibility. As part of a recently public company, you’ll have the autonomy and support to make an impact as we build for the long term.

About the role:

We’re seeking an experienced, hands-on, and self-starting individual to launch and mature Samsara’s Developer Advocacy function as our first Developer Advocate. Samsara processes 9T+ data points annually, supports 75B+ API calls, and boasts a growing marketplace with 270+ partner integrations. Our customers and partners are increasingly leveraging this data to build innovative applications in the connected operations space, and you will be at the forefront of this expansion.

As the leader of Developer Advocacy at Samsara, you will create momentum and drive adoption of the platform through your interactions with developers building applications and businesses on Samsara. You’ll report to Samsara’s Head of Developer Ecosystem and collaborate with a world-class team of product, engineering, business development, and marketing professionals.

This role is open to candidates in the US and Canada.

You should apply if:

  • You want to impact the industries that run our world: Your efforts will result in real-world impact—helping to keep the lights on, get food into grocery stores, reduce emissions, and most importantly, ensure workers return home safely.
  • You are the architect of your own career: If you put in the work, this role won’t be your last at Samsara. We set up our employees for success and have built a culture that encourages rapid career development, countless opportunities to experiment and master your craft in a hyper growth environment.
  • You’re energized by our opportunity: The vision we have to digitize large sectors of the global economy requires your full focus and best efforts to bring forth creative, ambitious ideas for our customers.
  • You want to be with the best: At Samsara, we win together, celebrate together and support each other. You will be surrounded by a high-calibre team that will encourage you to do your best.

In this role, you will:

  • Own the strategy & long-term roadmap for Developer Advocacy, including collaborating cross-functionally to launch the highest-impact features, processes, and programs for developers.
  • Create high-impact 1:many content and resources for developers, including sample applications, developer guides, video tutorials, and more.
  • Influence the direction of our developer offerings through running tight feedback loops with developers, identifying key developer experience gaps, and championing empathy for the developer persona across Samsara.
  • Drive growth of the developer community by engaging with and fostering interactions between developers through office hours, hackathons, webinars, forums, developer campaigns, and more.
  • Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices.

Minimum requirements for the role:

  • 5-7+ years in developer advocacy or in a comparable role.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and proficient in communicating technical concepts simplistically. Must be comfortable presenting to customers, partners, and internal audiences.
  • Proven track record of delivering engaging, well-written, and technically robust enablement content for a technical audience (e.g. guides, blogs, videos). A key portion of the interview process will be walking the interviewers through a sample app and/or piece of technical content you created.
  • Bias-to-action and hands-on experience delivering business results. You’re not afraid to get your hands dirty.
  • B.S., M.S., or technical degree related to software development.
  • Experience working with REST APIs, JSON, Webhooks, Python, and App Development.
  • Strong hands-on developer who is comfortable with full-stack development.

An ideal candidate also has:

  • Strong familiarity with enterprise customer goals & expectations from a technical perspective.
  • Builder mindset, as evidenced by technical side projects and contributions to open-source projects.
  • Proficient in other common coding languages (e.g. Java, Javascript, .NET).
