Position Summary

Performs diagnostic ultrasound examinations for subsequent evaluation and treatment by attending physicians.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide physicians with guidance during point of care ultrasound applications, curate necessary supplies and equipment and assist physicians with patient support.
  • Teach ultrasound techniques to trainees (Fellows, Residents, Medical Students).
  • Enhance own professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, literature reviews, in-service meetings and conferences.
  • Maintain and provide support to point of care ultrasound unique workflow including supporting physicians with patient ADT entry and reporting.
  • Perform and teach diagnostic ultrasounds in accordance with established protocols. Explain point of care ultrasound to patients.
  • Review point of care ultrasound reports for completeness and established protocols.
  • Select and operate complex ultrasound equipment. Regulate technical factors on individual patient. Review studies for diagnostic acceptability.
  • Practice aseptic and sterile technique to prevent the spread of disease.
  • Maintain appropriate ultrasound equipment records and supplies.
  • Participate in continuing education activities related to the field of Point of Care Ultrasound and its subspecialties.
  • Perform evaluative equipment tests; participate in (or is responsible for) quality control program.
  • Maintain established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Assist with trainee evaluations.

​​Working Conditions

Normal ultrasound department environment with exposure to bodily fluids, chemicals, and electrical hazards, may lift, position, push and/ or transfer patients at times and have some pressure caused by adherence to patient examination schedules.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Sonography education and training in the specialty area(s): Abdominal Ultrasound, Pelvic Ultrasound, Basic Cardiac Ultrasound competency, Vascular ultrasound.
  • Commitment to professional growth.
  • Understanding of adult learning theories and concepts.
  • Graduate of an ultrasonography program or completion of an appropriate education pathway.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Ultrasonography, Radiology, Biological Sciences or a relevant health science field.
  • Working knowledge of ultrasound equipment and procedures with interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of ultrasound workflow, PACS, and documentation standards.
  • Working knowledge of point of care ultrasound applications.
  • Some experience in ultrasound

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent high school certification.
  • Registered or registry eligible status (A.R.D.M.S.).

Salary Range

$32.73 - $50.74 / Hourly

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
