Position Summary

Experienced and fully competent in payroll processing best practices.  This includes and not limited to timecard entry and validation, processing and validating payroll in designated system, understanding of earnings and deductions (pretax and taxable), understanding payroll taxes (federal, state and local), maintaining and updating employee data, responding to employee questions accurately and timely.  Responsible for assisting other departments and agencies with payroll questions, requests and completion of wage verification forms.  Ensuring payroll accuracy and employee satisfaction for our weekly, bi-weekly, and semi-monthly payrolls. Able to complete assignments and tasks with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Experienced and fully competent in payroll related items and works with independently or with minimal supervision in area of payroll validation. This includes and not limited to the following: earning and deduction taxation on regular and On Demand payments, pay and W2 reconciliation (earnings/deductions/taxes), garnishment processing, benefits (deductions and Leave pay), termination pay rules, money movement, familiar and able to reference/ implement payroll rules and best practices. 

  • Provides resolution for wide range of complex payroll related discrepancies and payroll related questions accurately and timely (based on Service Level Agreements) with minimal to no supervision.  These come in the form of cases, emails, mail and daily reports/tasks. This includes and is not limited to the following: On Demand check creation and validation, earning and deduction taxation inquiries, pay and W2 reconciliation, garnishment processing, benefits (deductions and STD), terminations, overpayments, wage requests and similar requests for earnings.

  • Achieve results and meet deadlines with minimal to no direction when working on assigned activities and or projects by knowing or being able to follow established procedures and instructions provided. 

  • Using professional judgement on analyzing data and ensuring timely and accurate completion on assigned tasks.

  • Update and create Desk Top Procedures/Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) for assigned tasks as needed. 

Minimum Job Qualifications

  • Typically requires 3+ years of related experience.

  • Preferred Certified Payroll Profession (FPC, CPP) 

Specialized Knowledge/Skills

  • Payroll processing experience.

  • Experience in multi-state payroll environment.

  • Preferred Working knowledge of Workday, Kronos, and ADP garnishments and banking.

  • Experienced and fully competent in payroll best practices and is proficient in specific areas (i.e. garnishments, unions, benefits, taxes) with moderate guidance.

  • Strong knowledge of federal, state and local regulations and taxes.

  • Ability to complete work assignments independently while contributing to a team environment

  • Attention to detail and the ability to enter and validate information accurately.

  • Ability to deal sensitive and confidential material.

  • Decision-making, problem-solving, and analytical skills.

  • Ability to work in a heavy volume fast paced environment and meet deadlines with limited supervision. 

  • Organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills.

  • Receptive to coaching and instruction from management.

  • Ability to adapt and remain positive during changes to processes and working conditions.

  • Ability to identify and communicate process improvements and develop resolution.

Our Base Pay Range for this position

$22.34 - $37.23
