The Role

Stanley Black & Decker (NYSE: SWK) is seeking a strategic, innovative and results-oriented Vice President of Investor Relations to shape, articulate and evolve the investment story of the company and its strategic relationship with key stakeholders among institutional investors and research analysts. 

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer of the company, the Vice President, Investor Relations will be responsible for developing and executing a proactive investor relations program aimed at enhancing the company’s valuation and reputation with the investment community.  The role will have both internal and external responsibilities, including providing investor/market intelligence and counsel to senior management as well as educating investors and analysts on the company’s business strategies and performance.

This individual will lead all communications and activities directed to the investment community including earnings announcements, annual reports, global industry conferences, investor visits, shareholder meetings, analyst day events, presentations and the Investor Relations website. The leader will be responsible for developing appropriate messages for the investment community and ensuring that communications are disseminated promptly, efficiently, and in accordance with all regulations.

This position is based at our world headquarters in New Britain, Connecticut, though other Stanley Black & Decker hub locations will also be considered.

Primary Accountabilities

The Vice President, Investor Relations will serve as the primary point of contact between the global investment community and the company. 

  • Cultivate respected relationships with both sell-side and buy-side analysts as well as key shareholders.
  • Develop key messages for all investor communications including remarks and talking points for annual meetings, quarterly conference calls, press releases, filings, Q&A’s, industry conferences, one-on-one visits, IR content on the website and measuring the message penetration to ensure audiences are appropriately informed.
  • Lead investor targeting efforts inclusive of new shareholder identification and develop the marketing strategies to efficiently utilize the CEO, CFO, COO and other key executives’ time to engage proactively with investors, analysts and other relevant global stakeholders.
  • Provide senior management with accurate feedback related to discussions with the investment community and its reaction to the Company's business strategies, market developments, and external events.
  • Assist in the development of financial guidance. 
  • Maintain an in-depth understanding of, and continually monitor analyst valuation models.
  • Provide counsel to senior leadership in preparation for financial community presentations, preparing questions and participating as appropriate.
  • Continually monitor and analyze the shareholder base.
  • Effectively manage the Investor Relations budget.
  • Develop and maintain responsibility for a high quality and accurate Stanley Black & Decker investor relations website.
  • Provide business, financial and market intelligence to executive management and identify industry trends, shareholder concerns and competitor actions that might impact the company.
  • Develop and execute on processes to monitor and measure the effectiveness of the Company's investor relations and communications efforts.
  • Understand and comply with requirements of all laws and regulations applicable to role.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will have led Investor Relations for a publicly traded, global manufacturing or branded goods company with significant prior financial experience in either corporate finance or equity research.  The candidate will have a track record of success and the desire to stay in a highly visible IR role for a substantial amount of time while playing a critical role in continuing to drive the company’s equity market positioning, key stakeholder relationships and shareholder value.

  • Exceptional business and financial acumen; an in-depth understanding of the global capital markets, and a comprehensive and current knowledge of SEC regulations, reporting and disclosure requirements.
  • An established reputation and connections within the investment community, based on credibility, consistency, visibility, access, and depth and breadth of knowledge.
  • Clear and thorough grasp of the financial modeling used by investment professionals to value an organization’s performance; strength in utilizing metrics to help articulate the business drivers.
  • High intellectual capacity with high interest and learning agility.
  • A natural communicator; strong oral and written communication skills, in addition to strong presentation skills.
  • A superior listener who has a proven ability to influence and be persuasive, organized, and articulate.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, superior intellect, and an outstanding ability to build trust and relationships both internally and externally; an active and effective leader.
  • A self-starter who can work autonomously, while also being an energetic, efficient, and resourceful team player.
  • Demonstrated experience developing global communications strategy, tactics and recommendations.
  • A bachelor’s degree in finance, business or related field is required; an MBA degree, CFA and/or CPA designations are preferred.
