Network Engineers at Ciena play a critical role in transforming and modernizing customer networks to support reliable, high‑performance connectivity. This role drives complex in‑service network evolution through rigorous engineering design, execution, and documentation. The work directly enables customer success while identifying and delivering value through Ciena and partner solutions.

How you will make an impact:

  • Deliver network transformation and modernization services by analyzing customer networks and defining integration and conversion requirements.
  • Design and execute complex migration, reconfiguration, and modernization procedures for live customer networks.
  • Lead in‑service upgrades including channel adds, node insertions, traffic migrations, and hardware and software upgrades.
  • Develop and present end‑to‑end network modernization solutions aligned with customer requirements.
  • Perform network audits and architecture designs to enable complete end‑to‑end modernization.
  • Create and own Engineering Methods of Procedure (EMOP) and remotely drive execution during maintenance windows.
  • Collaborate with sales, product line management, engineering account owners, and project teams to identify hardware and services revenue opportunities.The must haves:

The must haves:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field of discipline.
  • Experience: 5–8 years experience with live network migration and telecommunication consulting.
  • Implementation of complex upgrades on in‑service customer networks involving Ciena equipment, including channel adds, node insertions, traffic migrations, and hardware/software upgrades.
  • Execution of multi‑vendor equipment changes during network reconfiguration involving Ciena products.
  • Creation, validation, and execution of complex and custom EMOPs for new deployments and in‑service upgrades.
  • Development and ownership of detailed network engineering documentation, including detailed network design deliverables.
  • Ability to work extended and unusual hours, including high‑stress maintenance windows and weekend activities.

Nice to haves:

  • Background in Verizon Business tools and environments, including ICON, CCP, Nautilus, or similar platforms.
  • Participation in pre‑deployment customer conference calls and technical planning sessions.
  • Contribution to the development and global rollout of documentation standards for new products.
  • Collaboration with internal product development teams to recommend enhancements to field deployment processes.
  • Involvement in audit and optimization services for telecommunications networks.
  • Support of pre‑sales custom service estimates.
  • Leadership and collaboration within cross‑functional engineering and project teams.
