Your Impact

As the Director of Engineering, you will be leading engineering teams in advancing Axon Justice, our premier digital evidence management system (DEMS) tailored for prosecutors, criminal defense attorneys, and the courts. Axon Justice is focused on streamlining administrative tasks like case management, sharing, and disclosure so that prosecutors can save time to focus on their cases. You will also be leading a small team to expand into the Corrections market, tailoring the Axon ecosystem to reduce use of force and injuries.

This pivotal role involves steering the technical strategy for Axon Justice and the larger DEMS architecture so that we can build new features and capabilities for our customers faster and with a high degree of quality. You will collaborate with our product managers to shape the product strategy, and own building the execution plan for your engineering teams. You are a strong organization leader that knows how to evaluate talent, and can grow your engineering leadership bench.


What You’ll Do

Location: Seattle
Reports to: Senior Director of Engineering
Direct Reports: 2+ Engineering Managers, 3+ Software Engineers

  • Driving the execution of your teams by supporting your managers in planning, prioritization, stand-ups, and team retro meetings
  • Leading the technical direction of the team through architectural discussions and code reviews
  • Working with product managers and product designers to drive the product strategy for Axon Evidence in the Justice and Corrections markets both in the US and internationally
  • Join forces with recruiting to hire a top-notch engineering team
  • Coaching and growing managers and senior engineers with weekly 1:1s

What You Bring

  • 10+ years professional software development experience
  • 5+ years of experience leading engineering teams
  • 2+ years of experience coaching other engineering managers and leading multiple engineering teams
  • Experience designing and delivering high-availability, scalable cloud-based systems
  • Deep experience in multiple, managed languages such as Java, Scala, Go, C#, or similar
  • Experience working with multiple SQL or NoSQL datastores
  • Proven ability for coaching and mentoring
  • You love delighting end users and hunger for novel challenges

The Pay: Axon is a total compensation company, meaning compensation is made up of base pay, bonus, and stock awards. The starting base pay for this role is between USD 176,250 in the lowest geographic market and USD 282,000 in the highest geographic market. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: level, function, training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, geographic market, and often a combination of all these factors.
