Summary :

The Speech Language Pathologist provides quality clinical care activities for patients within the scope of practice as defined by the state of Wisconsin and the American Speech Language and Hearing Association. Works as part of a multidisciplinary team at the hospital and/or outpatient care centers. Demonstrates competency in evaluation and treatment utilizing value-based care and evidence-based practices.

Job Description:

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Uses best practice/evidence-based care to perform assessments and treatments of patients with communication disorders, swallowing disorders (including video fluoroscopy swallow study), and cognitive disorders to assist patients in obtaining their maximum level of function.

  • Completes accurate and timely documentation of services in accordance with professional and compliance standards to best reflect the patient's status and needs, support revenue cycle, and facilitate communication for continuity of care.

  • Practices patient-centered care by working in partnership with patients and families/caregivers to encourage and empower their active participation in the care plan and to facilitate a positive patient experience.

  • Practices collaborative care to assist patients in obtaining maximal level of function and advocate for patient needs.

  • Provides education to patients and families/caregivers including assessing readiness, and developing and executing a teaching plan.

  • Demonstrates responsible actions and initiative to positively impact patient care and contribute to the department’s financial performance.

  • Provides education and mentoring for students, interns, residents, observers, volunteers, and/or team members to support their development.

  • Develops and/or implements clinical and community-based activities that improve or expand services.

  • Demonstrates clinician autonomy through individual professional development and mentorship to support the team’s success in advancing their profession.

  • Promotes successful relationships with referral sources and within the community to enhance strategic growth and gain market share.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited school of speech language pathology

  • License to practice speech language therapy in the State of Wisconsin

  • American Speech-Language Hearing Association Certification • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)

  • CPR

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling) and lift up to a maximum of fifty (50) pounds without assistance

  • Job classification is exposed to blood borne pathogens (blood or bodily fluids) while performing job duties

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Climate controlled office setting with daily movement throughout the facility

  • Lap tops and or PC’s available for use to manage documentation needs

  • Interaction with department members and other healthcare providers

  • Potential exposure to sharps objects and instruments, airborne particles, radiation and toxic and or caustic chemicals

  • Potential exposure to aggressive and combative patients

  • Use of EPIC for support of documentation needs.
