As a Desktop Engineer, you will deploy and support the Airports Authority’s enterprise desktop environment and provide Tier III support to users throughout the Airports Authority.

Desktop Engineer

Serves in the IT Service Delivery Division of the Office of Technology located at Washington Dulles International Airport (although may also support users at the Corporate Headquarters or Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport).

Uses Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) to engineer the core desktop platform and infrastructure for the Microsoft Office Suite. Ensures successful integration of enterprise systems management and application systems into the enterprise desktop environment. Performs related functions.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Supports the enterprise desktop environment, including all devices used by Airports Authority end-users. 

Installs, configures, and administers SCCM, System Center Update Publisher, Microsoft Windows Server, and Microsoft Office.

Creates and deploys Windows desktops into the operating environment.  Maintains standard configuration of golden images for deployment into the virtual desktop environment.

Supports the process for deploying operating systems, including updating images, creating and configuring task sequences, customizing pre-installation boot images, building driver packages for multiple hardware types of operating system architectures, and configuring the User State Migration Tool.

Creates and modifies Structure Query Language queries on an SCCM primary site.

Installs and configures client software on computers within the enterprise desktop environment by utilizing Microsoft Group Policy, SCCM, or similar products. 

Manages application and software updates, including packaging standard applications, publishing applications to the software catalog, and creating custom packages and scripts.

Creates and deploys custom client settings and establishes client setting priority level.

Operates within ITIL framework; leverages formal change control and release processes.

Configures and manages security roles.

Configures, installs, and manages enterprise anti-virus system. Integrates security software programs.

Administers the SCCM reporting website to allow staff to create customized reports and access reporting tools and functions.

Installs and tests service packs and cumulative updates on servers and clients. Configures, installs, and administers the enterprise anti-virus system.

Executes test lab activities and resources for hardware and software applications, including physical and virtual test environments. Automates deployment to facilitate repeated configuration; validates procedures to ensure reliability installation and configuration scripts.

Provides Tier III IT Service Desk support to end-users to resolve technically complex problems. Works with system engineers to resolve issues using Problem Management or Root Cause Analysis. 

Identifies and gathers requirements, identifies risks, and provides recommendations to Office management to minimize/mitigate impact to continued operations of enterprise and custom developed applications. 

Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Three years of progressively responsible experience in a user or system support capacity creating and deploying Windows desktops, creating and modifying Structure Query Language queries, configuring software, managing updates, and administering enterprise anti-virus protection systems.

Two of the three years of experience must include expert-level administration on an enterprise client management tool or other valid enterprise client management suite.

One of the three years must include administering and managing test lab activities.

Skill in creating and deploying Windows desktops, installing/configuring client software, and managing updates.

Skill in creating and modifying Structure Query Language queries.

Skill in installing and administering enterprise anti-virus protection systems

Knowledge of SCCM 2012 and standard software platforms such as Windows Server 2007/2008 and ability to provide expert-level administration of the enterprise desktop environment.

Knowledge of SCCM infrastructure and skill in designing, installing, and deploying hardware and software into the enterprise desktop environment.

Knowledge of, and skill in, creating and maintaining standard configuration of WIM images in the golden image library.

Knowledge of, and skill in, configuring, installing, and administering enterprise security software programs; knowledge of anti-malware to set up malware alters for endpoint protection.

Skill in managing test lab activities of hardware and software.

Skill in providing Tier III desktop incident support to end-users and assist system engineers to resolve technically complex issues, drive remediation through in-depth analysis; and develop and document standardized processes.

Ability to make detailed analyses of data and information and make recommendations.

Ability to speak and write effectively, with emphasis on communicating technical issues to nontechnical audiences.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Certification as a Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) in Administering SCCM 2012.

ITIL v3 Foundations Certification.

EDUCATION

A high school diploma or a Certificate of General Education Development (GED).

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES REQUIRED

A state driver’s license in good standing.

Certification as a Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) in Administering SCCM 2012 or ability to obtain it within 180 days of hire, promotion or placement on the job.

ITIL v3 Foundations Certification or ability to obtain it within 180 days of hire, promotion or placement on the job.

NECESSARY SPECIAL FACTORS

Operates vehicle landside and airside (requires AOA permit).

Must be able to work and support technology users at any of the Airports Authority’s facilities and locations.

Work is typically reviewed in progress and upon completion for quantity, quality, timeliness, teamwork, customer service, and other factors.

Must be able to work varied schedule of days and outside of the normal 8am-5pm business hours for scheduled and emergency maintenance and upgrades.

A background security investigation will be required for all new hires.
