The Manager, Systems Performance leads the Optimization Console function within Gas Control, ensuring it operates as an effective decision-support and optimization hub. This role enables safe, compliant, and value-driven operation of NGTL, Foothills, Mainline, TQM, and CGL systems by providing strong people leadership, governance, and cross-functional integration.
You will lead a team of Optimization Console Specialists and console governance/compliance expertise, providing direction, coaching, and oversight across daily optimization activities. The position partners closely with Gas Control, Operations Planning, Volume Planning, Commercial, Commercial Asset Planning, and Engineering stakeholders to advance operational maturity, regulatory compliance, and optimization outcomes.
What You'll Do
People leadership & capability
Lead, coach, and develop Optimization Console Specialists to operate with strong technical rigor, risk awareness, and accountability.
Set clear expectations for decision quality, collaboration, and safe execution; provide timely feedback and performance support.
Define and maintain role-based training, competency validation, and refresher requirements aligned with control room management expectations.
Operational decision support & escalation
Provide oversight of daily optimization activities, ensuring risks are identified, reviewed, and mitigated before execution.
Act as the escalation point for complex or urgent operational decisions requiring Optimization Console involvement.
Ensure optimization activities align with system constraints, customer impacts, equipment health, and regulatory requirements.
Champion disciplined decision-making frameworks that balance value creation with system reliability.
Stakeholder integration & communication
Serve as the primary interface between the Optimization Console and Operations Planning, Volume Planning, Commercial, Commercial Asset Planning and Engineering teams.
Ensure clear communication of optimization intent, impacts, and execution plans to Gas Controllers.
Support alignment forums, working sessions, and cross-functional optimization reviews.
Performance outcomes & value delivery
Drive optimization performance outcomes, including fuel avoidance, throughput improvements, and proactive risk mitigation.
Ensure opportunities are identified, prioritized, executed, and tracked through a consistent intake and reporting process.
Lead continuous improvement of optimization processes, metrics, and reporting (e.g., “Top Catches” and value realization tracking).
Tools, analytics & digital enablement
Oversee the effective use and evolution of Optimization Console tools, including SCADA, Power BI dashboards, SEEQ, RAMP, GAP, and optimization models.
Partner with SMEs and project teams to drive tool enhancements that reduce manual effort and improve decision quality.
Governance, assurance & compliance
Partner with Gas Control Center leadership to ensure control room management system requirements are met (staffing/coverage expectations, fatigue risk controls, shift handover standards, operational readiness).
Maintain and improve governance for console operations (procedures, checklists, decision logs, escalation pathways) to support consistent, repeatable, auditable execution.
Provide leadership oversight of regulatory and internal compliance obligations impacting optimization and console decision-making; ensure risks are identified, tracked, and addressed.
Ensure critical operational decisions, assumptions, constraints, and approvals are documented in accordance with applicable standards and retention requirements.
Coordinate responses to internal/external audits and assurance reviews, including corrective actions and close-out verification.
Emergency Response and IMT participation.
Lead/participate in investigations and learning reviews for events, near misses, or process deviations involving optimization decisions; integrate lessons learned.
Govern changes impacting console procedures, tools, and operating practices (including MOC where applicable), ensuring risk assessment, communication, training, and implementation controls are completed.
