PRIMARY FUNCTION
The Composite Technician I works with new aircraft parts, using oven processes, fabricating of aircraft component molds, and vacuum techniques, and maintains and repairs composite aircraft components made of fiberglass and other carbon materials.  You are responsible for understanding Army technical manuals, drawings and blue prints, and have working knowledge of precision tools.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

•    Perform lay-up techniques that include pre-pregs or wet lay-up, cutting, bagging, and/or trimming operations or machine operations. 
•    Ability to demonstrate an understanding of work orders, blueprints, and lay-up charts to ensure the quality of the product. 
•    Receive detailed written instructions from the supervisor, lead technician, or an engineer. 
•    Layout, pre-fits, assembles and casts polyurethane and like material on a variety of molds and surfaces.
•    Load and operate presses, ovens, and autoclaves. Adheres to equipment requirements and the method and sequences of operation to be followed in fabrication of parts using materials such as polyurethane, fiberglass, epoxy resins, and like materials.
•    Select tooling and materials compatible with the processing techniques identified in the work instructions.
•    Employee will be required to handle regulated and hazardous wastes and materials.
•    Safely work in a team environment rigging, lifting, and transporting large parts and equipment.
•    Apply your skill in the use of production tools
•    Use computers to record data (excel), track time (Auto-time)

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no supervisory responsibilities

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
•    Ability to work with shop tools and equipment used in composite layup and assembly as well as demonstrate the ability to perform in a team environment and exhibit a willingness to “do what it takes” to ensure customer expectations are met or exceeded.
•    Perform casting of materials to fabricate parts and/or for repair applications using products and processes which are varied but generally not complex in scope.
•    Fabricate polyurethane and like materials into subassemblies for the purpose of pre-fitting in preparation for bonding
•    Perform complex composite lay-up, vacuum bagging, cutting, repair, autoclave and / or trimming.
•    Verify work to ensure a defect free part prior to presenting to quality control (inspection).
•    Read and interpret drawings and technical manuals.


QUALIFICATIONS:  Composites Certification from accredited college or 1 year experience.
•    High School Diploma / GED or equivalent required
•    Precision Tool experience (i.e. Dial Calipers, Hot Bonder, Torque Wrenches, Vacuum Pump, etc.)
•    Must be a U.S. Citizen
•    Must be willing to reside in Huntsville AL area; no relocation provided for this role
•    Must have or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance.
•    Ability to work overtime when required.
