Job Description:

Summary:

This position presents the opportunity to work on large, complex and challenging projects out of Barr's Calgary office. The person in this position will undertake diverse and challenging work focused on providing air compliance support to primarily fast-paced industrial clients. Project work may include determining regulatory applicability, preparing compliance reports, and developing air permitting applications. Other work duties may involve the development of proposals, scopes of work, and budgets; participation in meetings and negotiations with clients and regulatory agency personnel; internal team coordination and staff mentoring; quality control review of draft deliverables; and overall project management.

The person in this position will:

  • Manage project teams, make and manage schedule commitments with clients on behalf of the teams, assign work tasks to project team members, review the work quality of team members’ work, provide feedback to employees on their work performance, and manage project budgets.

  • Coordinate the work of project team members, so that their contributions are integrated into the overall documentation.

  • Engage in business development planning and the pursuit of opportunities with new and existing clients.

  • Managing others who complete environmental certificate of approval applications, air emission inventories, NPRI reporting and TIER reporting. In fulfilling these duties, this person may interface with federal, provincial, and local government officials and regulatory staff; resource managers; other industry representatives; technical and information resource experts; and interested and concerned citizens.

While the position is located in Calgary, fulfillment of the position responsibilities will require periodic travel.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an environmental science or closely related engineering discipline

  • 10 or more years of professional experience with provincial and federal air programs

  • Technical knowledge of the federal and provincial environmental regulations such as NPRI, the Clean Air Act, TIER, CEAA, Alberta GHG Regulations, as well as the application of the relevant regulations

  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with clients, project team members, and regulators

  • Demonstrated ability to fulfill commitments on schedule and within budget and to provide professional services that exceed client expectations and requirements

  • Strong technical and problem-solving skills, including attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness, as well as a commitment to producing high-quality deliverables

  • Demonstrated effectiveness in building working relationships and leading and working with multidisciplinary teams

  • Intrinsic motivation with an emphasis on client service and cultivating a career in environmental consulting

  • Willingness to travel and periodically and adjust the schedule to meet project needs

  • Legal authorization to work in Canada without the need for sponsorship from Barr Ltd., now or in the future or the ability to obtain a TN Visa

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record


Preferred Qualifications:

  • 15 years of experience working with federal and provincial air regulations

  • APEGA or AIA registered or the ability to become so registered

  • Experience with developing air permit reports and supporting materials and in working with regulators to provide post-submission support

  • Aptitude for developing client relationships and new business

A hybrid or remote work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office; a remote arrangement refers working primarily from a home office. This position can be based out of Barr's Calgary office. Remote arrangements will be considered based on candidate qualifications, location requirements, and Barr’s needs.

Compensation will vary based on experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus.
