The Division of Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgery and Congenital Heart Center (CHC) at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital seeks a Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgeon to be the Surgical Director of the Pediatric Heart Transplant program and join a nationally ranked congenital heart program. The successful candidate should display, in addition to exceptional cardiac surgical skills, the capacity to adapt and interact within a diverse team of cardiologists, surgeons, intensivists and APPs.
This position will be embedded with the Congenital Heart Center and will require close collaboration with adult heart failure and adult cardiac intensive care unit for management of our adult congenital cardiac surgical patients. This will include adult congenital transplant patients. Practice opportunity details:
Congenital Heart Center includes 14+ attending cardiologists, 6 categorical cardiology fellows and three pediatric cardiothoracic surgeons.
CHC at HDVCH performs 250 major cardiac surgical procedures per year and 450 catheter-based procedures and investigations.
CHC at HDVCH is one of the few ACHA accredited specialist adult congenital centers and performs 35-45 major adult congenital surgeries a year.
Cardiovascular surgical team has achieved consistently exceptional outcomes over the last 10 years
Cardiac intensive care services are provided in the state-of-the-art 12-bed Cardiac Care Unit
Teaching and research opportunities available with Michigan State University
Qualified Candidates:
MD/DO
Must be US board certified/board equivalent in pediatric cardiac surgery
Must meet all OPTN requirements to be the primary surgeon for pediatric heart transplant program
Previous experience in heart failure, heart transplant and mechanical circulatory support with interest in building an advanced heart failure program to include mechanical circulatory support and pediatric heart transplantation
Previous track record of performing Neonatal complex cardiac surgery independently
Minimum of 5 years post-fellowship practice experience is required
Previous experience in Heart Failure and VAD
Must have excellent communication skills
The successful candidate will report to the Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery who is also the Co-director of the Congenital Heart Center.
