About the Role

Fivetran is building data pipelines to power the modern data stack for thousands of companies.

We’re looking for a business-minded Director, Assistant General Counsel, Commercial, with deep experience drafting and negotiating customer agreements with leading global and domestic organizations.  This legal team member will report directly to the VP & Deputy General Counsel, and will be a key partner and liaison to other impacted Fivetran departments and stakeholders.  The ideal candidate will be a critical individual contributor first and foremost, but shall have the ability to coach and lead junior legal team members.

This is a full-time position based out of our Denver office, or remote in the US.

What You’ll Do

  • Review, revise and negotiate commercial contracts, including customer and data protection agreements 
  • Serve as one of the designated (primary) legal contacts on the commercial legal team to Fivetran’s entrepreneurial sales team, including leading sales team education, training and communications related to any changes customer agreements 
  • Create and update commercial legal team playbooks to help drive alignment with internal stakeholders
  • Own and improve key template documents, including periodic revisions and improvements, and help operationalize templates into the contracts management and automation tool 
  • Liaise with Fivetran’s product team to understand how product updates may impact existing or new customer agreements 
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of best practices for commercial contract lifecycle management, ensuring efficient review, negotiation, and approval processes
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with external counsel, alternative legal service providers, and manage outside commercial legal resources effectively
  • Stay abreast of evolving legal trends and industry best practices in the SaaS and data privacy space
  • Complete other special projects given your interest areas and the needs of a rapidly scaling company and team

Skills We’re Looking For

  • A highly accomplished commercial attorney with 8+ years of experience in negotiating commercial contracts at high-growth technology companies, with demonstrated experience and interest in data and privacy
  • A proven negotiator with a deep understanding of global commercial transactions, including expertise in drafting, reviewing, and finalizing complex agreements, such as sales agreements, SaaS and enterprise B2B transactions, and data processing agreements (compliance with GDPR, CCPA and other data protection laws)
  • A process-oriented lawyer with a passion for building and optimizing processes and procedures in partnership with legal operations 
  • A proven track record of achieving high-volume, quick turn on execution of agreements constructed to mitigate risk and support revenue growth
  • A strong communicator with exceptional written and verbal skills, you can clearly articulate complex legal concepts to both technical and non-technical audience
  • High attention to detail, with demonstrated self-initiative that drives a desire for impact and achievement 
  • JD and admitted to practice in at least one jurisdiction, with eligibility to become a registered in-house counsel in either California or Colorado preferred

This range represents base salary only and does not include incentive for sales roles, equity, or  benefits, if applicable.

$207,920$259,900 USD
