This role is part of Blue Origin corporate functions, providing centralized support across Blue Origin business unit teams, functions, and locations.We are a team of collaborators, doers, and problem‑solvers who are relentlessly committed to a culture of safety. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your commitment and detailed attention toward safe and repeatable space flight. As Director of Strategy, you will help stand up and lead Blue Origin’s central Strategy function. You will define and drive the enterprise strategy agenda, establish the operating system that connects long‑range ambitions to near‑term priorities and investment decisions, and, over time, build and lead a small, high‑impact team of strategists.
In this highly visible role, you will work closely with senior executives and business unit leaders to frame the most important strategic questions for the company, shape the portfolio of “big bets” we pursue, and ensure we have the mechanisms to track progress and adjust course. You will be a key thought partner to the Head of Corporate Development, Strategy, and Partnerships, and will collaborate closely with Corporate Development and Strategic Partnerships on company‑shaping opportunities.

Responsibilities (include but are not limited to)
Build and mature the Strategy function
Define the charter, scope, and engagement model for Blue Origin’s Strategy function, including how it interfaces with business units, Sales, Corporate Development, and Strategic Partnerships.
Establish and run key elements of the strategy operating system (e.g., long‑range planning inputs, annual strategy refresh, portfolio and investment reviews, metrics/OKRs, and executive cadences).
Over time, hire, develop, and lead a small team of strategists, creating a high‑performance, inclusive culture and elevating strategic capabilities across the company.
Own the enterprise strategy agenda
Develop and continually refine a focused portfolio of enterprise‑level strategic questions (e.g., portfolio choices, where we must win, make/buy/partner decisions, capital allocation themes).
Lead complex, cross‑company strategy projects end‑to‑end, from problem framing and hypothesis development through analysis, synthesis, recommendations, and executive alignment.
Translate Blue Origin’s long‑term vision into clear strategic priorities and roadmaps, with explicit implications for business units, capabilities, and investments.
Partner with Finance and business leaders to connect strategy to resource allocation and performance management.
Drive “big bets” and company‑shaping opportunities
Identify, frame, and champion 3–5 “big bets” at any given time that can materially shape Blue Origin’s trajectory.
Work closely with Corporate Development on strategy‑led M&A and strategic investments, including market scans, investment theses, target screening, and portfolio fit.
Partner with Strategic Partnerships and Sales to design and evaluate non‑standard partnership constructs (e.g., co‑development, strategic collaborations, warrants/rights, ecosystem plays).
Serve as a trusted advisor
Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, bringing objective, data‑driven perspectives on markets, competitors, and strategic options.
Facilitate executive‑level discussions and offsites, ensuring focus on the most important issues and clear decisions, owners, and follow‑through.
Create high‑quality executive communications (strategy narratives, investment cases) that clearly articulate trade‑offs, options, and recommendations.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in business, engineering, economics, public policy, or a related field.
Director: typically 8–10+ years of management consulting, corporate strategy, or a combination of top‑tier consulting and in‑house strategy/operational leadership.
Senior Director: typically 12+ years in the same domains, with a track record of leading at the enterprise level.
Demonstrated experience independently leading complex, cross‑functional strategic initiatives with senior‑level visibility.
Strong skills in market analysis, financial and economic modeling, and business case development, with high standards for analytical rigor.
Familiarity with portfolio thinking (e.g., product/market or program portfolios) and how to connect strategy to resource allocation.
Excellent written and verbal executive communication skills, including the ability to synthesize complex topics into clear narratives and influence senior stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to lead through influence, work across functions and business units, and manage multiple, competing priorities in a fast‑paced, high‑ambiguity environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degree (MBA, MS, or equivalent) in business, engineering, public policy, or a related field.
Experience in aerospace, defense, space, or other highly technical, regulated industries.
Experience working closely with Corporate Development / M&A and/or Strategic Partnerships to link strategy to transactions and long‑term partnerships.
Prior responsibility for designing or running strategic planning and portfolio review processes for a multi‑business or multi‑segment enterprise.
Comfort operating in environments with long development cycles, significant technical risk, and evolving customer and competitive landscapes.
Compensation Range for:
WA applicants is $218,262.00 - $305,566.80Other site ranges may differ

Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical

Stock Options for all regular employees (working at least 20 hours/week)
Paid Time Off: Up to four (4) weeks per year based on weekly scheduled hours, and up to 14 company-paid holidays.
