About Salesforce

We’re Salesforce, the Customer Company, inspiring the future of business with AI+ Data +CRM. Leading with our core values, we help companies across every industry blaze new trails and connect with customers in a whole new way. And, we empower you to be a Trailblazer, too — driving your performance and career growth, charting new paths, and improving the state of the world. If you believe in business as the greatest platform for change and in companies doing well and doing good – you’ve come to the right place.

Enterprise search is a new effort within Slack to help users find and bring external data into their flow of work. Be it Google Docs, Microsoft Outlook Emails, or JIRA Tasks, you will help drive a team that builds a comprehensive solution for bringing these disparate sources of data into Slack in a cohesive, tractable way. We are building both a robust backend solution for interacting with various third-party APIs as well as a fabulous in-Slack experience for enabling users to make these data as actionable and interactive as possible.

In this role, you will need to meld creative product thinking, a thirst for understanding people from a variety of backgrounds, and thoughtful use of data in order to build the best in class enterprise solutions.

You’ll lead a hardworking team of frontend and backend engineers while growing out your team through recruiting efforts. We're looking for someone invested in their team's career development and that facilitates psychologically safe discussions about: project deliveries, process improvements, and mentorship. You should be well-versed in full-stack design principles and be able to give advice on code architecture and implementation.

Our Team

Search is responsible for bringing meaning to Slack's backronym: a Searchable Log of All Conversations and Knowledge. We build and maintain highly scalable, reliant systems to ensure we deliver the right content to users when they need it. Our organization consists of a few subteams, involving ML Ranking, Backend Indexing, Frontend Components, and AI features. We are one of the more diverse teams at Slack when it comes to technologies and scope of engineering concerns. It's exciting!

What You Will Be Doing

  • Defining, evolving and communicating the team’s vision, mission, and strategy across Slack

  • Collaborating with Product and technical leaders to build a roadmap for your team and growing the team to complete that roadmap

  • Delivering team goals in a timely and efficient manner

  • Implementing effective engineering processes and policies

  • Setting and fulfilling the engineering hiring plan for the team, including sourcing, screening, and interviewing.

  • Coordinating requests with third party companies to ensure we're able to meet our technical goals.

What You Should Have

  • You have 2+ years of engineering management experience leading productive, high-functioning teams.

  • You have a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field, or equivalent training, fellowship, or work experience.

  • * You can contemplate several, and often conflicting, constraints and make rapid decisions. You can anticipate future technical needs for the product and craft plans to realize them

  • You have enough technical experience to discuss architecture and product decisions with engineers.

  • You have a proven history of shipping products with consistent execution.

  • You are highly organized and thrive in rapid-paced environments.

  • You don’t shy away from performance conversations and you recognize the relationship between objective feedback and career growth.

  • You have hands-on experience in API design and development and are up-to-date on standard methodologies for modern frontend engineering and developer platforms

  • You’re excited to explain sophisticated technical concepts and share your knowledge with diverse audiences both internally and externally

  • You excel at building roadmaps and can develop a long-term team vision in partnership with Product Management and other engineering teams on Slack Platform. You can then be accountable for driving project execution
