Job Description

We are seeking a strategic and results-oriented Commodity Manager to lead the sourcing strategy for Logistics focusing on over-the-road and warehousing. This role is a part of the Global Indirect Strategic Sourcing Organization within our Integrated Supply Chain (ISC) business function. You will be responsible for developing and executing sourcing strategies that deliver world-class supplier performance in quality, service, cost, working capital, and innovation. This role will focus on optimizing freight spend, improving carrier performance, and driving logistics innovation through strategic sourcing initiatives. The ideal candidate will have expertise in OTR logistics, including full truckload (FTL), less-than-truckload (LTL), and warehousing operations.

This role reports to the Global Sourcing Manager, Indirect Services and is located at any one of our Rockwell Locations.

What you will do:


•    Develop and implement global Sourcing strategies for transportation services including FTL, LTL, and regional carriers.

•    Lead carrier selection, contract negotiation, and performance management to ensure best-in-class service, cost, and reliability.

•    Partner with Logistics Operations to identify opportunities for route optimization, mode conversion, and freight consolidation

•    Monitor and analyze market trends, cost drivers, and supplier capabilities to identify opportunities for innovation and cost reduction.

•    Conduct market analysis, freight benchmarking, and cost modeling to support strategic decision-making and continuous improvement.

•   Drive supplier negotiations to achieve best-in-class commercial terms, service levels, and long-term value creation.

•   Manage carrier relationships through scorecards, KPIs, and quarterly business reviews, driving accountability and service excellence.

•    Collaborate with Legal and Risk teams to ensure compliance with transportation regulations, insurance requirements, and contract terms.

•    Support freight audit and payment processes, working with Finance and 3PLs to resolve discrepancies and improve cost visibility.

•    Drive sustainability initiatives in transportation, including emissions reduction and alternative fuel strategies.

•    Deliver year-over-year improvements in freight cost, on-time delivery, carrier performance, and working capital.

•    Lead continuous improvement efforts with commodity team, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.


Skills you bring:

•    Knowledge of domestic transportation markets, carrier networks, and freight procurement strategies.

•    Proven experience in negotiating transportation contracts and managing carrier performance.

•    Strong negotiation skills, with a proven ability to secure favorable commercial terms, manage complex supplier discussions, and drive strategic outcomes in a global sourcing environment.

•    Excellent analytical skills and proficiency in data-driven decision-making.

•    Proven experience in should-cost modeling, pricing strategy, and contract negotiation.

•    Strong communication and stakeholder management skills across global teams and cultures.

•    Passion for driving excellence in supplier performance and sourcing innovation.
•    Capable of capturing and transforming an idea/concept into business opportunity and deliver positive results 
•    Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects / assignments requiring identification of objectives, resources and/or approaches. 
•    Ability to effectively influence key stakeholders without a direct reporting relationship.
•    Embraces and demonstrates characteristics that foster a culture of inclusion.

•    Proficient in Microsoft Excel for cost modeling and data analysis; skilled in PowerPoint and Word for clear, impactful communication.

Basic qualifications


•    Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering or Supply Chain Management.

•    Minimum of 3 years experience in strategic Sourcing, Supply Chain, Engineering, or related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

•    Experience managing Over-the-Road transportation in a large, matrixed, global organization with cross-functional collaboration.
•    Familiarity with TMS platforms (e.g., Oracle, Blue Yonder, MercuryGate) and freight audit tools (e.g., Cass, Intelligent Audit).

•    Familiarity with freight contracts, accessorial charges, and fuel surcharge programs.

•    Knowledge of DOT regulations, carrier safety ratings, and risk management in logistics.

•    Experience with 3PLs, freight brokers, and dedicated fleet providers.

•    Exposure to international logistics, intermodal, or parcel is a plus.

•    Proficiency in sourcing tools and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Ariba).
