About the role:

In your role as an Associate, you will play a key role in Oceania’s Credit & Portfolio Management team (CPM) which sits within Global Corporate & Investment Banking (GCIB) division, supporting the origination and management of new and existing corporate and institutional customers, as well as offshore subsidiaries.

The broader CPM team plays an important role in achieving the Bank’s risk & return targets through (a) conducting credit reviews and risk management in accordance with the Bank’s internal procedures; and (b) delivering on a number of strategic and balance sheet focused tasks / assessments.

You will be an integral part of this function through the successful completion of a range of day to day tasks, including: the management of customer credit & portfolio related requests, periodic review of customer credit and risk profiles, supporting the Relationship Managers and Portfolio Leads on the credit approval process of new transactions (incorporating deal structuring, preparing credit submissions, historical financial analysis, financial modelling, and industry analysis etc.), the preparation of client presentations and customer account plans whilst ensuring compliance with internal processes and policies, and the structuring and preparation of financial documentation. You will also engage in other ad hoc requests to support Relationship Managers and the Head of CPM.

What you’ll be doing:

The Associate will be responsible for credit analysis and risk management across a portfolio of clients, with a focus on credit quality and achievement of the Bank’s risk / return targets through:

Strategic Focus:

  • Active role in supporting Portfolio Lead and Relationship Managers in client acquisition initiatives and other initiatives across the portfolio
  • Strong focus on credit underwriting, deal structuring and execution
  • Support Portfolio Lead in the coordination with key internal stakeholders to ensure processes run smoothly and to ensure ‘nothing falls through the cracks’
  • Coordinating with relevant teams within MUFG to support the on-boarding of new clients

Account Management: 

  • Conduct annual credit reviews and internal rating reviews as per internal guidelines and policies
  • Covenant compliance monitoring and adherence to policy updates and changes within the Bank
  • Support refinancing / restructuring requests and other revenue-generating initiatives across the portfolio
  • Other client requests and account management tasks required in accordance with the Bank’s policies and procedures and/or required to support the broader business.        

Portfolio Management: 

  • Support the ongoing credit management of the portfolio, including exposure management, industry updates (both globally and regionally), and other tasks required by the Portfolio team from time to time.
  • Support the Portfolio Lead in the management of the book, including a focus on sector risk / return and other strategic review processes

What we are looking for:

  • 2 - 5 years’ experience in a major domestic or international bank or chartered accounting firm. Candidates from credit rating agencies, investment banks, investment management firms clearly also have relevant skills and are likely to be considered
  • Undergraduate Business / Commerce / Law Degree from a leading university is essential
    • Masters of Finance, MBA or CFA will be considered favourably
  • Proficiency in the full suite of core Microsoft products, and will be strong in financial modelling
  • Possess an understanding of financial and economic markets
  • Experience in: (a) credit writing; (b) financial analysis and modelling; and (c) legal documentation and debt structuring
  • Be able to engage in independent research & analysis of customers and markets and apply critical thinking and a high level of attention to detail
  • The ability to communicate clearly both in writing and verbally
  • Has strong interpersonal and presentations skills
  • Is a team player, has drive and enthusiasm
  • Is a self-starter who applies initiative and is adaptable to change
  • Has an analytical mindset and problem solving skills
  • Has the ability to work independently and prioritise a number of tasks across various work streams and alongside a number of stakeholders
