Caregivers in the Cardiothoracic OR use their in-depth experience to perform complex operations with the newest surgical techniques, equipment and devices, including minimally invasive, off-pump bypass, robotically assisted and percutaneous procedures. As an OCCA in this department, you will provide or assist with basic patient care activities in an outpatient clinic, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Independent Provider (LIP).

This is a full-time position. A caregiver in this role will work 8:30am to 5:00pm.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Provide or asst with basic patient care activities under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Independent Provider (LIP).
  • Complete the rooming process, including completion of intake questions and the reporting of abnormal findings to the RN or LIP.
  • Collect patient specimens, perform Point of Care Testing and prepare specimens for transport to lab.
  • Prepare and assist patient for exams, tests and procedures.
  • Assist with procedures such as EKG, Holter monitors, pule oximetry, hearing and vision screening, and disinfection and sterilization.
  • Perform patient treatments as directed.
  • Review printed instructions with patients.
  • Assist with wound care under the direction of the LIP.
  • Document in the electronic health record and assist with management of in-basket and closure of care gaps.
  • Assist with setting up the clinic for daily operations and closing clinic at end of day as well as stock supplies and clean and monitor supplies where applicable.
  • Maintain all designated work areas in a clean and orderly manner.
  • Assist in regulatory and safety monitoring and compliance audits as directed.
  • Collaborate with members of the health care team to promote the delivery of patient care and the overall functioning of the department.
  • Participate in departmental meetings.
  • Initiate CPR and other emergency measures as required.
  • Perform administrative or clerical duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Understanding of human anatomy
  • Knowledge and understanding of basic patient care activities
  • Basic knowledge of math and the ability to read, write and speak English
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) required within new hire period
  • Minimum one-year recent health care experience in a hospital, ambulatory, homecare, assistant living, nursing home or long-term care setting OR additional formal training/education which may substitute some or all stated experience

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Proficient in the use of an electronic medical record

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking.
  • Light Work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects.
