As part of a diverse and hardworking team of leaders and technicians, you will lead in the continued development and manufacture of space flight hardware related to the safety and flight worthiness of Blue Origin’s New Glenn project.  In this position, you will be responsible for applying your leadership skills and experience to the production of various thermal protections systems (TPS) for New Glenn flight hardware according to written procedures, engineering models, drawings, and specifications. You will be responsible for the safe and productive operations of team members performing tasks related to machine operation, various material handling equipment including forklifts, and other support equipment as required. You will perform second party verifications and hardware inspections to engineering models, drawings, specifications, and written procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the daily tasks of Thermal Protective Systems manufacture (TPSMF) maintaining the safety of employees, hardware and equipment while ensuring the quality of it’s products. 
  • Developing and maintaining team standards for safety, productivity, adherence to process and quality requirements.
  • Devising and implementing plans for process improvement, employee skills and product development plans.
  • Leading the team’s efforts to meet production expectations and delivery schedule goals.
  • Planning daily and weekly tasks across all process areas of the manufacturing center to optimize overall through put.
  • Establishing strong working relationships with support organizations and internal customers to maintain productivity, and operational capacity.
  • Developing and mentoring Blue Origin’s leadership Principles by example, regarding business practices and team leadership.
  • Build strong relationships with engineering teams to review design concepts, provide feedback for ease of assembly, develop process improvements and support development tests. 
  • Work schedule will vary to include additional hours overlapping other shifts for meetings and planning work based on hardware delivery, and schedule requirements.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience working in a product development, production manufacturing, fabrication shop environment processing components to aerospace standards.
  • Familiarity with CNC production machinery, specifically lasers and quilters.
  • Experience with surface preparations and cleanliness processes related to flight hardware and bonding agent applications.
  • Previous leadership experience in aerospace manufacturing or production manufacturing.
  • Ability to mentor and train employees of diverse backgrounds, managing training schedules and certification processes.
  • Experience with 5S, FOD, and configuration controls relevant to space flight systems manufacturing.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and appropriately at all levels of the organization. 
  • Ability to document and maintain accurate records utilizing software data applications and web-based systems, as well as interpret drawings and modeling software. 
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
