About the Pathway to Specialty Practice Program:
At St Vincent’s, we use scholarly activities and innovation in our teaching strategies to prepare nurses for an ever-changing healthcare environment, where new technologies, treatments and areas of practice continue to emerge. We are seeking Registered Nurses for our 2026 Pathway to Specialty Practice (PSP) program who are committed to providing the highest quality of care to our patients and strive to further develop their knowledge and clinical expertise. The PSP program includes an accessible e-learning platform, study day, and objective-based assessments.
Program Highlights:
The PSP program provides clinical experience to help you achieve your career goals:
• Clinical Experience: Gain hands-on experience in specialty clinical settings, supported by expert nurses and a dedicated nursing leadership team.
• Clinical Supervision: Benefit from guidance and mentorship provided by experienced nursing educators and peers.
• Career Development: Progress toward your career goals with opportunities for articulation into postgraduate studies.
• Program Structure: The 12-month program offers either two six-month specialty rotations or a full twelve months in a preferred specialty area, depending on the chosen stream.
• Learning Platform: Access a comprehensive e-learning platform, structured study days, and objective-based assessments covering core elements of specialty nursing.

• Correctional Health, St Augustine’s & Emergency
• Emergency (12-month)
• Haematology/Oncology & Emergency
• Intensive Care Unit & Cardiothoracic
• Intensive Care Unit & Neurosurgery
• Medical Imaging Department
• Mental Health & Emergency
• Perioperative - Anaesthetics & Post Anaesthesia Care Unit
• Perioperative – Scrub/Scout
• Renal Services: Dialysis
About You:
You are a motivated and compassionate nurse looking to take the next step in your career through specialty practice. You will bring:
• A solid foundation in acute nursing and a desire to expand your expertise in a specialty area
• A strong commitment to ongoing education and professional growth
• A patient-centred approach, delivering safe and high-quality care
• Initiative and advocacy for the safety and wellbeing of both patients and colleagues
• A willingness to fully engage in the Pathway to Specialty Practice program, including attendance at training and study days, and completion of required assessments and learning activities
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
To be eligible for the Pathway to Specialty Practice program, you will have:
Current Nursing Registration: You hold a current Nursing Registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia via AHPRA without conditions.
Educational Background: You have a degree in General Nursing that meets the registration requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
Professional Experience: You have successfully completed a Graduate Nurse Program OR have a minimum of 12 months of acute care nursing experience. Recent clinical experience in an acute care setting is highly desirable.
