Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Java API Developer with 6+ years of experience to join our API Platform team. This role is critical in providing product and feature delivery for our near Real-Time Event Streaming Enterprise Data Backbone, which is the primary technical enabler of Sun Life's Client Experience Transformation Vision.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical specialization for API Platform (Kafka, Precisely CDC, and Light Kafka Sidecar) and its supporting infrastructure & tools
• Implement Enterprise Event Hub Roadmap to achieve desired business outcomes under leadership guidance
• Serve as a cornerstone resource for detailed design, development, and implementation of Enterprise API Products
• Assist API Platform Consulting Team in providing technical guidance to LOB Teams and delivering LOB Solutions
• Mentor existing team members and participate in hiring new Enterprise Event Hub Engineers to grow expertise in Canada and SLGS
• Share knowledge through Enterprise Event Hub presentations and product demos in communities of practice

Required Skills and Experience

• 6+ years of experience in Java API development
• Strong expertise in Apache Kafka and event-driven architectures
• Proficiency in design patterns and best practices for scalable, distributed systems
• Experience with Precisely CDC (Change Data Capture) and Light Kafka Sidecar
• Solid understanding of RESTful API design and implementation
• Familiarity with microservices architecture and containerization technologies
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
• Excellent communication and mentoring abilities

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
• Knowledge of data streaming and real-time processing technologies
• Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines
• Experience in financial services or insurance industry
