HOURLY: $25 - $30, depending on experience.

Summary

Facility Equipment & Fleet Mechanic plays a critical role in supporting daily operations at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center, a large-scale equestrian, agricultural, and special events facility. This position is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, repair, and safe operation of all motorized equipment, fleet vehicles, and specialized machinery used across barns, arenas, agricultural areas, and event infrastructure.

The role directly supports horse welfare, agricultural operations, landscaping, manure management, emergency preparedness, and event readiness. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience working in farm, ranch, equestrian, racetrack, or agricultural facility environments and understands the operational demands of working around horses, livestock, and the public.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Equipment & Fleet Maintenance

  • Diagnose, service, and repair a wide range of gasoline, diesel, electric, and agricultural equipment, including but not limited to:
    • Light- and heavy-duty trucks
    • Water trucks
    • Dump trucks and utility vehicles
    • Tractors and agricultural equipment
    • Arena drags, grooming equipment, and attachments
    • Manure grinders, spreaders, and hauling equipment
    • Golf carts (electric and gas) and facility transport vehicles
  • Perform preventive maintenance and scheduled servicing to ensure reliability, safety, and extended equipment lifespan.
  • Conduct regular inspections of all fleet vehicles and equipment to identify safety concerns, mechanical issues, or compliance risks.

Equestrian Operations Support

  • Support barn operations, arena maintenance, landscaping, irrigation, and manure management systems essential to equestrian facility operations.
  • Respond to equipment issues that may directly impact horse safety, animal care, or facility access.
  • Operate equipment when needed to support operational demands, emergency response, or special events.

Safety, Compliance & Documentation

  • Maintain detailed service records, maintenance logs, inspection reports, and equipment inventories.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, Cal/OSHA, fire safety regulations, and ASM Global standards.
  • Identify unsafe equipment conditions and coordinate repairs or removal from service.

Coordination & Communication

  • Work closely with Operations, Maintenance, and Event teams to schedule repairs and maintenance that minimize disruption to horses, staff, boarders, and events.
  • Assist the Director of Operations in ordering parts, tools, and supplies; track usage and assist with inventory management.
  • Provide basic training or guidance to staff on safe equipment operation and reporting issues.
  • Respond promptly to emergency breakdowns or operational failures to maintain continuity of facility operations.

Shop & Work Area Management

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop environment.
  • Ensure tools, equipment, fuels, and charging stations are stored and used properly.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities but may provide functional guidance and technical direction to staff operating equipment or vehicles.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Proven experience diagnosing and repairing gasoline and diesel engines.
  • Working knowledge of agricultural, heavy-duty, or industrial equipment.
  • Experience with hydraulics, electrical systems, batteries, and charging systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret service manuals, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to safety and recordkeeping.

Education and/or Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Vocational certification or technical training in automotive, diesel, agricultural, or heavy equipment mechanics preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in equipment, fleet, agricultural, or facility maintenance.
  • Experience in equestrian facilities, farms, ranches, racetracks, or similar environments strongly preferred.
  • Certifications demonstrating expertise in diesel, agricultural, fleet, or heavy equipment maintenance are strongly preferred.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a dynamic operational environment.
  • Comfortable working around horses, livestock, and the public.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing equipment inventories, operational needs, and event schedules.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 75 pounds and work in varied outdoor conditions.

Physical Demands

  • Frequent lifting, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in confined or uneven areas.
  • Ability to safely handle tools, parts, and machinery.
  • Ability to work outdoors in heat, cold, dust, noise, and variable weather conditions.

Work Environment

Work is performed in a combination of workshops, barns, arenas, agricultural, and outdoor environments. The role involves regular exposure to machinery, vehicles, animals, uneven terrain, and noise. Strict adherence to safety protocols and PPE requirements is mandatory.

Compensation

Hourly compensation commensurate with experience. Eligible for overtime and benefits in accordance with Legends Global policy.
