Centre for Advanced Robotics Technology Innovation (CARTIN) are hiring a Research Associate to deploy SLAM software on embedded platforms. The Research Associate will work on real-time, lightweight multi-sensor SLAM systems for firefighting robots, optimizing for speed, memory, and power. ROS2, Jetson platform experience, and deep understanding of SLAM backends are essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Port multi-sensor SLAM pipeline to embedded computing platforms.

  • Optimize SLAM modules for real-time performance under thermal and power constraints.

  • Design modular SLAM architecture with ROS2 interfaces.

  • Implement Docker-based deployment, memory footprint reduction, and GPU acceleration.

  • Collaborate with algorithm and hardware teams for integration and benchmarking.

Job Requirements:

  • Master’s with experience in 4D radar, thermal camera, SLAM or robotics software.

  • Strong C++ and CUDA programming, with ROS1/2 experience.

  • Experience in deploying SLAM on Jetson, ARM, or other edge platforms.

  • Familiar with SLAM backends (g2o, Ceres, GTSAM) and sensor fusion.

  • Experience in lightweight mapping, odometry, and loop closure strategies.
