POSITION:                                     Manager, Software Development

DIVISION:                                      Metrology and Analysis Systems Division (MAD)

COMPANY:                                  Hitachi High-Tech America, Inc. (“HTA”)

TRAVEL:                                        Up to 40% (domestically and internationally)

LOCATION:                                   Preferred Location:  Pleasanton, CA metro area

Other Location:  Hillsboro, OR metro area

REMOTE WORK:                         Remote Restricted (within a commutable distance to either Pleasanton, CA or Hillsboro, OR)

EXPECTED PAY RANGE:                $140,095 - $192,630 annually

This pay range is for the position’s base pay only.  This position may be eligible for other compensation including incentive pay and/or allowances.  Candidates will receive additional information during the interview and selection process.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Manager of Software Development (MSD) position will be responsible for the overall planning, design, development, execution, and maintenance of software systems.  The MSD will operate at all levels, diving deep into the details while providing strategic inputs for the products.  The MSD must have strong technical and managerial skills.  The MSD takes ownership over leading and growing a team to architect levels and implement complex technological initiatives.  The MSD is expected to successfully deliver major product releases and work closely with stakeholders, cross functional group managers, and product team members to deliver mission-critical, complex products and features.  The MSD will be a critical software leader who will lead the estimation process, assess risks, and effectively mentor team members to improve their skills and raise the bar on software development best practices.  The MSD will own the implementation strategy to radically change our product offering in ways that is least disruptive to our customers while delivering significant value concurrently.  The MSD will bring strong judgment, deep technical and software expertise, strong business acumen, and an ability to define visionary, groundbreaking products.  

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the Software/Quality Department and manage their day-to-day operations.
  • Ensure on-time delivery of projects tasks, deliverables, and milestones.
  • Make critical decisions regarding technology selection, balance features, and operational priorities.
  • Set high standards for quality and on-time delivery.
  • Define and execute meaningful Service Level Agreements (SLA) that capture the customer experience.
  • Strategic planning for Software/Quality Department.
  • Organizes and delivers project related communications as determined during project governance formation.
  • Communicates delivery status, issue management and resolution.
  • Manage, develop, and execute strategic project delivery plans.
  • Drive the recruiting process the Software/Quality Department.
  • Provide technical leadership to the Software Development and Quality Assurance team members
  • Ensure all project stakeholders are well informed of project progress and decisions.
  • Participates in design, code, and test reviews.
  • Participate in road-map prioritization with product management.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, LICENSES, and/or CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Masters/Graduate Degree in related field preferred

EXPERIENCE and TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • 10 years’ experience building large scaled complex N-Tier/SOA, applications with a focus on server-side technologies.
  • 10 years’ experience building successful production software systems.
  • Experience leading AI product model development and deployment.
  • 5 years of management experience that includes recruiting, hiring, performance management, and providing technical leadership to software teams.
  • Highly preferred experience in managing multiple offshore development teams.
  • Experience in defining system software architectures and technical requirements.
  • Scrum and Agile development methodology experience required.
  • Experience using the following languages is preferable- Java Enterprise Edition, ExTJS, any front-end scripting language, C++/C#, SQL (PostgreSQL, MySQL), Linux, Python, Shell scripting, Linux Server configurations, RHEL, CentOS.
  • Proven experience with planning and project management.
  • Proven experience with issue management and conflict resolution.
  • Demonstrated experience handling many multi-faced projects at once.
  • International and domestic travel up to 40%
